Upon inspection of 9435 Santa Cruz Road, the vacation- rental was in violation of various CA Health & Safety and Desert Hot Springs Municipal Codes. The Officer explained how to remedy the violations and the owner came into compliance in a timely manner. Please see before and after photos below. Additionally, to comply with the recently amended vacation rental ordinance, Officer Candler required retroactive payment of transient occupancy tax, to which the property owners complied, making a payment of $15,369.00. • Abandoned Vehicle Abatement Officer, Pamela Chaffin obtained an abatement warrant and towed an inoperable and wrecked vehicle from a vacant lot off Worsley Road and Mission Lakes Blvd. Please see before and after photos below. • An Administrative Hearing was conducted for 68175 Club Circle Drive. This property was determined to be a public nuisance to the community and surrounding properties. The hearing was held to demolish the attached garage. The first arriving Company Officer reported a fully involved 1000 sq foot structure fully involved in fire. The building which was later determined to be an outbuilding was completely destroyed. Firefighters were able to save an adjacent 2200 sq foot residential structure from any damage. Both structures were unoccupied at the time of the fire. Indian Canyon Drive is closed north of Pierson to all traffic due to hose placement. The closure will be in place for approximately 1 hour. Desert Hot Springs Police is assisting with traffic control. Firefighters will remain on scene approx 2 hours for mop up and overhaul. The first arriving unit reported one building well involved threatening an additional structure and vegetation. Fire personnel were able to contain the fire to the building of origin and prevent any spread to the adjacent building or the vegetation. Units will remain at scene for three hours for mop up and overhaul. 22CARRU159703 On , CALFIRE / Riverside County Fire and the City of Desert Hot Springs fire department responded to a reported structure fire at the address above. The first arriving company officer reported an exterior fire, that had spread into an abandoned commercial building. An aggressive and coordinated attack contained the fires spread to the front entry room of the building. City building officials will need to follow up in the morning and inspect the structure. No injuries were reported to fire fighters or civilians. 22CARRU162366 On , CAL FIRE / Riverside County FD firefighters responded to reports of a commercial structure fire on the 66700 blk of 5th Street in the City of Desert Hot Springs. The first arriving Engine company officer reported heavy fire from the 2nd floor of a unoccupied commercial motel property. A second alarm was requested bringing additional resources including mutual aid fire agencies to assist in the firefight. The fire was controlled in approximately 25 minutes. Primary and secondary searches of the building found no occupants. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. Firefighters will remain on scene approximately 2 hours for mop up and overhaul. 5th Street is closed between Mesquite Avenue and Ocotillo Road for the duration of the incident. 22CARRU162537 On , CAL FIRE / Riverside County FD firefighters responded to multiple reports of a residential structure fire in the 17500 block of Louise Street in the City of Desert Hot Springs. The first arriving Engine Company officer reported a travel trailer had been completely consumed by fire and was smoldering. The occupants were able to self-evacuate prior to arrival of firefighters. One occupant received a minor burn but refused evaluation / treatment from CAL FIRE / Riverside County FD firefighter paramedics. Sadly, a family dog perished in the fire. No additional civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. Firefighters will remain on scene for approximately 1 hour for mop up and overhaul. 22CARRU166479 On , CAL FIRE / Riverside County FD firefighters responded to multiple reports of a multi family residential structure fire in the 66600 blk of 6th Street in the City of Desert Hot Springs. The first arriving Engine Company officer reported heavy fire from mulitple units of an abandoned motel property. Due to the size of the building and amount of fire involvement, a second alarm assignment was requested. First arriving firefighters with assistance of additional arriving resources began an aggressive coordinated attack which resulted in the fire being knocked down in approximately 25 minutes. All units were unoccupied at the time of the fire. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. Ocotillo Road between 5th and 6th Street is closed for the duration of the incident. Firefighters will remain on scene approximately 2-3 hours for extensive overhaul and mop 22CARRU170657 On , CAL FIRE/Riverside County Firefighters responded to reports of multiple fires in the City of Desert Hot Springs. There were initial 911 reports of several trash dumpsters and vegetation on fire threatening residential and commercial structures. The first arriving engine company officer discovered a homeless encampment behind three residents on fire. The fire spread to the three homes and burned the overhead power lines. Firefighters extinguished the vegetation behind the homes and prevented the fire from causing significant damage. The residents safely return to their homes and no one was displaced. So Cal Edison arrived to mitigate the damage to the power lines. There was no loss of essential services. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
