BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS CITY OF DOTHAN, ALABAMA ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 13, 2013 Pursuant to adjournment of the meeting held on August 13, 2013, the Board of Commissioners of the City of Dothan, Alabama, met in adjourned regular session in the Commission Chambers of the Roy Driggers Municipal Building at 9:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 13, 2013 with the following members present: Mayor Mike Schmitz, Associate Commissioners James H. Reading, Amos Newsome, Jr., Albert Kirkland, Critt Snellgrove, Taylor Barbaree, and Hamp Baxley. Also present were City Manager Michael West, City Clerk Pam McCoy, and Administrative Assistant Tammy Danner, who recorded the Minutes of the Meeting. Mayor Schmitz called the meeting to order. Mayor Schmitz introduced Resolution No. 2013-245 (recorded in Ordinance Book No._______at Page_______), canvassing the results of the City of Dothan Municipal Election held August 6, 2013, which was read. WHEREAS, an Election was held in the City of Dothan, Alabama on August 6, 2013, under applicable provisions of law, for the Election of Associate Commissioner for Districts 1, 2, and 4 for four year terms. All such terms to begin on the first Monday in October, 2013; and WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners of said City has met at the appointed time and place, and has canvassed the results of said Election as required by law. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of the City of Dothan, Alabama, as follows: Section 1. That upon canvassing the Certificates of Results prepared by the officials who held said Election, the total votes cast for each candidate for Associate Commissioners for Districts 1, 2 and 4 as shown by the Election Certificates are as follows: ASSOCIATE COMMISSIONER – DISTRICT 1 Darrell V. Davis - 103 Kevin Dorsey - 374 Larry E. Matthews - 319 James H. Reading - 598 ASSOCIATE COMMISSIONER – DISTRICT 2 Lamesa Danzey - 348 Amos Newsome - 362 ASSOCIATE COMMISSIONER – DISTRICT 4 John D. Ferguson - 799 Critt Snellgrove - 773 Section 2. Having received a majority of votes cast in said Election held on August 6, 2013 the following persons have been declared winners in their respective positions and shall serve terms as indicated, beginning October 7, 2013, upon their taking the Oath of Office: ASSOCIATE COMMISSIONER – DISTRICT 2 Amos Newsome - 362 Minutes of the Board of Commissioners – August 13, 2013, continued. ASSOCIATE COMMISSIONER – DISTRICT 4 John D. Ferguson - 799 Section 3. Having received the highest number of votes cast in said Election held on August 6, 2013, the following persons are hereby declared eligible for a second or Run-off Election to be held on September 17, 2013: ASSOCIATE COMMISSIONER – DISTRICT 1 Kevin Dorsey - 374 James H. Reading - 598 Section 4. That upon canvassing the Certificates of Results prepared by the officials who held said election, the votes cast for the sale of alcoholic beverages, by properly licensed retail licensees of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, for off-premises consumption on Sunday between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and midnight as shown by the Election Certificates are as follows: SUNDAY ALCOHOL SALES FOR OFF-PREMISES CONSUMPTION Yes - 3,996 No - 2,582 Commissioner Barbaree moved for adoption, motion seconded by Commissioner Reading and unanimously adopted.
