Human Relations Commission

Borough of Doylestown Human Relations Commission Monday, October 22, 2025 – 7pm Attendance: Freda Savana, John Fraser, Maxine Katz, Stefanie O’Mara, Chris Baccash, Student Member Abigail O’Mara, and Borough Manager John Davis. The Minutes of the August 2025 meeting were approved, with one attendance correction. History Research Project. Chris explained the project and introduced the project outline draft. Three potential project questions were introduced with the support of CBSD Social Studies curriculum head Chris Johnson. A question was raised about whether ninth graders would be able to participate in the project. The majority said yes, however, the rest of middle school students cannot at this time. A potential primary source could be interviews with the people that experienced these issues firsthand, possibly with a video recording followed by either transcribing the conversation or formatting the video to fit the necessary choice of media for the presentation. A few questions arose about how students would find specific information. The Mercer Museum’s Spruance Library could be a good place to accumulate research and be used as a potential resource. Other possible resources and topics include the Doylestown Historical Society for diversification in homes as well as the topic of racism, Layle Lane, and the history of Delaware Valley University, which was originally a Jewish farming school. Projects should include one or two personal stories per question. The Commission also discussed talking with possible interviewees ahead of time to get their consent and possibly reach out to those people to attend the next meeting for project guidance.
