Borough of Doylestown Human Relations Commission Wednesday, March 27, 2024a- 7pm Attendance: Fred Stanczak, Maxine Katz, Stephen Albert, Christopher Baccash, John Fraser, Freda Savana, Student Member Thomas O'Reilly, and Borough Manager John Davis. The Minutes of the January 2024 meeting were approved as submitted. Community Immigration Forum. Freda spoke on some positive feedback she received from her contact at Immigrant Rights Action. They are receptive to participating in the panel discussion and will await more details from the HRC. Members of the local Ukrainian community are also interested in participation. The group reviewed possible topics and discussion points. The plan is for less of a legal immigration discussion and more about how best to assist and welcome new members of the community. Maxine will reach out to the Ann Silverman Health Clinic as well. Old/New Business: Local resident Donna Shannon attended the meeting to share information on when to meet with Ukrainian immigrants at St. Anne"s Ukrainian Catholic Church, which she attends, if the HRC would like to do so. Community Immigration Forum 3. Old/New Business JHD:sa c: Council Mayor Borough of Doylestown Human Relations Commission Wednesday, January 24, 2024 - 7pm Attendance: Fred Stanczak, Maxine Katz, Stephen Albert, Christopher Baccash, Doreen Stratton, John Fraser, Stephanie O"Mara, Freda Savana, Student Member Thomas O'Reilly, and Borough Manager John Davis. The Minutes of the October 2023 meeting were approved. Stand Up for Justice Educator Fund, Shana Trichon reviewed this organization's updates and several accomplishments from last year's winners. The goal of this program is to honor and reward Central Bucks educators and administrators who work to implement programs to combat bigotry and bullying. The Fund's website and social media pages are being updated, and several fundraisers and events are being planned. Nominations for this year's awards are open and requested by May 1. HRC Community Member Recognition. The Commission finished the review of wording for the mission statement and John will forward those details to Caitlin to share on the Borough's social media platforms. Requests for nominations are planned to roll out at the beginning of March. Community Presentation Topic. The topic of immigration and ways the community can welcome and assist new community members is the topic for the next presentation, but without much movement further on the planning. Freda and Stephanie will reach out to their contacts, as well as other members of the Commission. Members of various groups will be asked to participate to talk about their customs and traditions.
