Park and Recreation Board Meeting Minutes Tuesday, February 6, 2023 – 7:00 p.m. Present: Gary Harris, James Lannon, Doreen McVaugh, Robert Huether, Molly Crotty, Karissa Elser, Jill Schweizer, as well as Recreation and Special Events Coordinator Caitlin Hernandez, The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. The Minutes from the November 8, 2023, meeting were approved as amended. James provided the Comprehensive Plan Update. The Planning Commission is currently assessing the feasibility of its goals to see which ideas are doable. They are trying to determine what the final plan will look like when presenting it to the public. James mentioned how the public is more focused on short-term issues, while the Borough has more of a long-term focus. The Planning Commission is analyzing transportation needs, roads, water and sewer problems, solar power options, etc. James believes the next workshop will be in late Spring 2024. The Planning Commission will have a meeting with the consultants from the County Planning Commission before that workshop. Liz Wyckoff will no longer provide the Bike and Hike Report, as she is now a member of the Borough Council. Caitlin attends the monthly meetings and can provide updates to the Board. There is nothing new to report currently. Caitlin gave the Recreation Director’s Report. She has met with Dave Burger to get updates on upcoming park projects. The Burpee Park Pavilion will be updated with new restroom fixtures and door handles. The aerator in the dam at Chapman Park has been purchased. Neis Park’s tennis court resurfacing is scheduled for June 18, 2024, through July 5, 2024. Dave is in the process of acquiring drinking fountains, picnic tables, and volleyball poles. Chess had 23 participants in January and 30 in February. Sherry is returning to host the Spring Scenic Stroll series. The Scenic Stroll and Fishing Derby schedules have been posted on the website. Caitlin shared the proposed picnic table design plans for Broad Commons Park with the Board. The Board unanimously approved the designs. The present members of the Board also discussed the Summer Shows at Burpee. Simply Fresh has confirmed their commitment to sponsor one show, and we are still waiting to hear from CBEA and C&N Bank. The potential for an indoor space and reconnecting with the Central Bucks School District to establish a backup location was discussed. The Park and Recreation Board discussed ideas for an Easter Egg Hunt, which was approved by the Environment and Recreation Committee and will be proposed to the Borough Council this month. Caitlin suggested a signup genius to help gauge public interest in the event. James noted the board should do all it can to predict turnout. Doreen recommended contacting the Key Club to get student volunteers, and board members will let Caitlin know who is available to help on the event day, March 30, 2024. Caitlin proposed hosting a Yoga in the Park program at Broad Commons Park. We are planning to partner with a local yoga studio, Sun Dog Yoga, and the Borough will take registrations through our new Park and Recreation software. A concern regarding bees and morning dew was raised. We will defer to Sun Dog and continue working on the program. Park and Recreation Board Meeting Minutes Tuesday, February 6, 2023 – 7:00 p.m. Under Old/New Business, James acknowledged that this would be Jill Schweizer’s last meeting after serving the citizens of Doylestown Borough on the Park and Recreation Board for 25 years. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:00 pm. Respectively Submitted by Erika Fellman Parks and Recreation Minutes Secretary
