Park and Recreation Board Meeting Minutes Tuesday, May 7, 2024 – 7:00 p.m. Present: Gary Harris, James Lannon, Robert Huether, Doreen McVaugh, Molly Crotty, Matt Reece, Karissa Elser, and Recreation and Special Events Coordinator Caitlin Hernandez. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. The minutes from the April 2, 2024 meeting were approved as amended. Caitlin reported there is no Bike/Hike Report. There are, however, plans for Bike Month Activities to take place in May, which is National Bike Month. On May 19, there will be an ice cream ride. This bike ride will start at Burpee Park with a bike safety demonstration. Liz would also like to hold a Pump Track educational event. Liz would also like to create a trail map that encompasses the trails through the Borough and how they connect to the trails from the Borough. Caitlin provided the Recreation Director Report. The picnic tables for Broad Commons have arrived, and Public Works will be building and installing them. Landscape Structures, the company that built the playground at Broad Commons, will be coming to do a photo shoot of the play structure to include in their catalog. Burpee Pavilion has been cleaned up and is ready for the season. There are 15 reservations for the pavilion to date. The pickleball court nets have been corrected. Children were not playing on the nets; they were cranked too tightly. Dave Burger fixed the problem. All softball and baseball fields are set and ready to go for the upcoming seasons. The spring Scenic Strolls are underway and have had a great turnout. The Park and Recreation Board is continuing to discuss the return of outdoor games. Caitlin shared the War Memorial Field Update with the Board. CBSD is going to waive the fees for the American Legion baseball team. They are also updating their policies to include non-profit youth teams to use the fields for free. James gave a Comprehensive Plan Update. The document with the six strategic themes has been presented to the County PC consultants. Throughout the summer, we will be checking in with them. We would like to have this finalized by the end of 2024. Old/New Business Under Old Business, Gary asked whether the Historical Society would be donating the chess tables from their park. Caitlin believes they will be coming to Broad Commons. With no additional business in front of the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 7:30 pm. Respectively Submitted by Erika Fellman Parks and Recreation Minutes Secretary
