Borough of Doylestown Shade Tree Commission AGENDA Tuesday, February 22, 2024 6:30 P.M. The rescheduled meeting of the Doylestown Shade Tree Commission was held at 6:30 PM on Thursday February 22, 2024, at Doylestown Borough Hall, 10 Doyle Street. Members of the commission in attendance were: Jean Weston, Baldev Lamba, Lisa Moscherosch, and Kayvon Tabatabai. Also in attendance were Borough Arborist Bob McMullin, Building & Zoning Director, Karyn Hyland, Park and Recreation Director, Dave Burger and applicants Bill & Jane Cope. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 6:30 PM Reorganization: Chairperson: Lisa Moscherosch (Weston/Lamba) Co-Chair: Chris May (Lamba/Weston) Secretary: Kayvon Tabatabai (Weston/Lamba) Minutes Approval: Minutes from November, December, and January were approved. (Moscherosch/Weston) Subdivision/Land Development: None Tree Applications: 1. 209 N. Hamilton Street. Commission approved this issuance of a permit for removal of 1 Silver Maple. (Weston/Lamba) Recommended Approval 2. 187 E. Court Street. Commission approved this issuance of a permit for removal of 1 Maple. (Weston/Lamba) Recommended Approval 3. 196 Green Street. Commission approved this issuance of a permit for removal of 1 Blue Spruce. (Weston/Lamba) Recommended Approval 4. 2 Chestnut Drive. Commission approved this issuance of a permit for removal of 1 Maple. With the suggestion to plant another tree. (Weston/Lamba) Recommended Approval 5. 375 Penn Street. Commission approved this issuance of a permit for removal of 1 Cherry, 1 Pine, 1 Unknown. With the suggestion to plant additional trees. (Weston/Lamba) Recommended Approval 6. 135 E. State Street.  Commission approved this issuance of a permit for removal of 1 Dogwood, 1 Oak. (Moscherosch/Lamba) Recommended Approval 7. 383 W. Oakland Avenue. Commission approved this issuance of a permit for removal of 1 Black Walnut. (Weston/Lamba) Recommended Approval 8. 123 N. Broad Street. Commission approved this issuance of a permit for removal of 1 Oak. (Weston/Lamba) Recommended Approval 9. 13 Kershaw Avenue. Commission approved this issuance of a permit for removal of 1 Maple. (Weston/Lamba) Recommended Approval 10. 514 E. Court Street. Commission approved this issuance of a permit for removal of 1 Sweet Gum. (Weston/Lamba) Recommended Approval Old/New Business: 1. Maplewood Street Tree Planting- STC will create a short list of Trees and will start meeting with residents to determine location & species. Hope to meet with a few residents before the March meeting. Lisa requests that at least 3 members be present when meeting with residents. 2. Tree City USA – The Borough Staff looked further into this program and are wondering what benefits this program offers. It appears that the borough is already meeting the goals expected in a “Tree City” and can be promoted via social media outlets rather than additional signs posted in the community. Dave says that the Borough staff can update the website. Reports: 1. Chairperson Report - Lisa thanks Karyn for providing the duties & procedures from the Borough Code & Website. She will follow up with borough staff to have the website updated so that they clear up any inconsistencies. 2. Arborist’s Report – Bob McMullin discussed how this winter was harsh on plantings and coloring in evergreens, particularly in Boxwoods & Cryptomeria. Although the winter remained fairly warm, the drastic temperature changes in the high and lows each day put the plants under stress. It is unclear what exactly happen until Spring arrives.
