DOYLESTOWN BOROUGH SHADE TREE COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES September 12, 2023 The regular meeting of the Doylestown Borough Shade Tree Commission was held at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at Doylestown Borough Hall, 10 Doyle Street. Members of the Commission in attendance were: Lisa Moscherosch, Jean Weston, Carter Van Dyke and Chris May. Also in attendance were Borough Arborist, Bob McMullin, Building & Zoning Director, Karyn Hyland, Park and Recreation Director, Dave Burger. As well as applicants, Greg & Elizabeth Campbell, Jason Bromiley, Karen Whitney and via zoom was Jason Teeple. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 6:30 PM. MINUTES APPROVAL: Minutes from the March meeting were amended and approved by those in attendance. (Weston/Moscherosch) SUBDIVISION/LAND DEVELOPMENT: 185 E. Ashland Street Shade Tree Commission has no recommendations for tree planting for this land development. PERMIT APPLICATIONS: 12 Edison Lane Commission denied issuance of a permit for removal of 1 Walnut. (Weston/May) Denied – Fence already installed with tree still in place. 52 Stacey Drive Commission approved the issuance of a permit for removal of 1 Red Maple. (Moscherosch/Weston) Recommended Approval 90 Cottage Street Commission approved the issuance of a permit for removal of 1 Sugar Maple. (Moscherosch/Weston) Recommended Approval 386 Linden Avenue Commission approved the issuance of a permit for removal of 1 Black Cherry. Shade Tree also recommended the removal on one Pin Oak. (Van Dyke/Weston) Recommended Approval 717 Stryker Avenue Commission approved the issuance of a permit for removal of 1 Sugar Maple. (May/Van Dyke) Recommended Approval 33 Union Street Commission approved the issuance of a permit for removal of 2 Norway Maple and 1 Ash. (Moscherosch/May) Recommended Approval 93 Decatur Street Commission approved the issuance of a permit for removal of 1 Ash. (Weston/Van Dyke) Recommended Approval 430 Belmont Square Commission approved the issuance of a permit for removal of 1 Black Walnut, 2 Ash and 2 Pine. (Weston/May) Recommended Approval 131 S. West Street Commission approved the issuance of a permit for removal of 1 Japanese Maple and 1 Sour Cherry. (Weston/Moscherosch) Recommended Approval 152 E. Ashland Street Commission approved the issuance of a permit for removal of 1 Pine and 1 Maple. (Weston/Van Dyke) Recommended Approval 387 Lincoln Avenue Commission approved the issuance of a permit for removal of 1 Norway Maple. (May/Weston) Recommended Approval 338 Avenue A Commission approved the issuance of a permit for removal of 7 Norway Spruce and 1 Blue Atlas Cedar. (Moscherosch/May) Recommended Approval 320 Green Street Commission recommended to hold onto the permit for removal of 1 Sugar Maple, pending pool application. (Weston/Van Dyke) Recommended to hold. 57 E. Ashland Street Commission approved the issuance of a permit for removal of 1 Red Oak with the recommendation that the applicant wait for further decline. (Weston/Moscherosch) Recommended Approval NEW/OLD BUSINESS: After discussion regarding the street tree planting for the Doylestown Cemetery, the Commission agreed to plant clustered Red Maple trees in the fall along the E. Court Street side of Doylestown Cemetery. And in the spring, they will plant clustered Dogwoods and White Oaks. Burger stated there will be an opportunity to plant about 15 to 17 trees along that side. Burger also stated that the Commission should come up with a plan on where the different species will be planted and to come up with a layout plan by the October meeting. Moving forward, Burger stated to the Commission to start looking into the tree planting they would like done in Maplewood and Old Orchard. To possibly utilize the neighborhood social media platform to get suggestions from residents of what they would like to see planted in their neighborhood. CHAIRPERSON REPORT: None. ARBORIST REPORT: McMullin stated that he currently is treating different trees for the following diseases: Bacterial Leaf Scorch, Tabacia, and Oakwood Canker. ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business before the Commission, the meeting was adjourned at 8:45 PM.
