DOYLESTOWN BOROUGH SHADE TREE COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES January 9, 2024 The regular meeting of the Doylestown Borough Shade Tree Commission was held at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at Doylestown Borough Hall, 10 Doyle Street. Members of the Commission in attendance were: Lisa Moscherosch, and Jean Weston. Also in attendance were Borough Arborist, Bob McMullin, Building & Zoning Director, Karyn Hyland, Park and Recreation Director, Dave Burger, along with applicants, Michael & Donna Line, CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 6:34 PM. MINUTES APPROVAL: Minutes from the November and December meetings were approved by those in attendance. There was no quorum. SUBDIVISION/LAND DEVELOPMENT: None PERMIT APPLICATIONS: 349 Penn Street Commission approved the issuance of a permit for removal of 1 Evergreen and 3 Maples. A neighbor letter is requested along with the recommendation to plant a new tree. Recommended Approval by Members in Attendance 19 Hickory Drive Commission approved the issuance of a permit for removal of 1 Swamp Maple. Recommended Approval by Members in Attendance 1 Juniper Drive Commission approved the issuance of a permit for removal of 1 White Pine and 1 Silver Maple. Recommended that the Property Owner try and prune the White Pine prior to removal. Members in Attendance 121 Spruce Street Commission approved the issuance of a permit for removal of 1 Black Walnut. Recommended Approval by Members in Attendance 348 Maple Avenue Commission approved the issuance of a permit for removal of 1 Cedar. Recommended Approval by Members in Attendance NEW/OLD BUSINESS: Moscherosch stated she wanted to discuss applying for a Tree City USA membership. Burger asked about the costs and what would be the benefits beyond receiving some signs. Moscherosch stated she would speak with another municipality to see how it works for them and then discuss it with the Commission at a later date. Burger advised the Commission that there is a staff member that was hired to help with social media and notifying the Residents about programs and events that will be happening in Doylestown Borough. Moscherosch raised the question of when the public relations side would come into effect with different items the Commission wants to cover. Burger explained to the Commission that they would give staff their objectives and then create avenues to let the people know what is going on and how they can help. CHAIRPERSON REPORT: Moscherosch discussed the Maplewood letter and the changes that staff made to it. Burger briefly discussed the QR Code that was created and how it works with any feedback they would receive. Hyland explained the resident form was designed to be general, not just for the Maplewood neighborhood. Moscherosch asked about filling the vacancy on the Shade Tree Commission. Hyland stated that it was advertised and that they were waiting to receive any interested applicants. Burger reminded the Commission that Arbor Day is April 26th, 2024. ARBORIST REPORT: None ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business before the Commission, the meeting was adjourned at 7:18 PM.
