DOYLESTOWN BOROUGH SHADE TREE COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES September 10, 2024 The regular meeting of the Doylestown Borough Shade Tree Commission was held at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at Doylestown Borough Hall, 10 Doyle Street. Members of the Commission in attendance were: Lisa Moscherosch, Baldev Lamba, and Jean Weston. Also in attendance were Borough Arborist, Bob McMullin, Building & Zoning Director, Karyn Hyland, Park and Recreation Director, Dave Burger, along with applicants, Carolyn Penglase, Jeff Karavel, Jerry Maurio and Kevin Kester of Van Cleef Engineering, CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 6:32 PM. MINUTES APPROVAL: Minutes from the August meeting approved. (Baldev/Weston) SUBDIVISION/LAND DEVELOPMENT: 159/161 W. State Street, Worth and Worth LP, Property Owner Shade Tree Commission has no specific recommendations for tree planting for this land development at this time but noted that the design team will need to be cognizant of the limited space and overhead wires. PERMIT APPLICATIONS: 421 North Street Commission approved the issuance of a permit for removal of 2 Maple and 2 Ash. (Weston/Baldev) Recommended Approval 348 Doyle Street Commission approved the issuance of a permit for removal of 1 Oak. (Baldev/Weston) Recommended Approval 16 Hickory Drive Commission approved the issuance of a permit for removal of 1 Maple. (Moscherosch/Weston) Recommended Approval 21 Kershaw Avenue Commission approved the issuance of a permit for removal of 1 Red Oak. (Weston/Baldev) Recommended Approval 173 Union Street Commission denied the issuance of a permit for removal of 1 Sycamore tree. The Commission recommended the tree be pruned, for there are many benefits to keep the tree. (Moscherosch/Weston) 11 Sandy Ridge Drive Commission denied the issuance of a permit. They ask for the property owner to attend the next meeting for discussion. (Baldev/Weston) 100 Homestead Road Commission approved the issuance of a permit for removal of 1 Cherry. (Weston/Baldev) Recommended Approval 656 Stryker Avenue Commission approved the issuance of a permit for removal of 1 Spruce Tree. Removal of the Maple tree was denied. (Baldev/Moscherosch) Recommended Approval of Spruce only. 542 Maple Avenue Commission approved the issuance of a permit for removal of 1 Red Maple. (Baldev/Weston) Recommended Approval 255 Doyle Street Commission approved the issuance of a permit for the removal of 5 Arborvitaes. (Weston/Moscherosch) Recommended Approval NEW/OLD BUSINESS: Burger stated at this time they are not taking any additional requests for street tree plantings. Burger stated they will continue planting street trees as staff's schedule permits. Then continue come spring of 2025. Burger informed the Commission that the Travis Manion Foundation will once again be doing a project with a group of volunteers to assist in planting trees along West Street near Lenape Middle School. The Borough will purchase and deliver the trees and the volunteers will plant them.
