I am curious to know if you guys would like a chef demo? Could bring my pizza oven, and demo some of your local farmers goods. Marianne is familiar with my set up. More farmers are returning and new applications have been accepted. Starting this month, Texas Hills Vineyard from Johnson City will be selling wine by the glass. We invite you all to enjoy a glass of wine while browsing the market. Bee Creek Farms from Spicewood is a new vendor who will be offering Peaches and Pears starting in late May. Other new vendors are Bradley’s Microgreens and The Fish Tender. After discussion by the Farmers Market Association Board and the City Treasurer, a decision was made for the market to not participate in SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). The program, which allows for low income families to use their SNAP cards to purchase food from the farmers market, would require too much time and the City doesn’t have the resources to devote to it at this time. The farmers market would like to encourage the individual vendors to become participants in SNAP so that all members of our community can enjoy the benefits of eating local produce. The farmers market is very pleased to hear that plans are in the works to fix the washed out culvert in the parking lot. This improvement will be appreciated by our customers. 6 7 8 From: CODS-Farmers Market To: Craig, Kerri; CODS-Farmers Market; Marianne Simmons Subject: Healthy living grant - DSFM agenda item Date: Tuesday, April 7, 2015 11:42:28 AM Emily Vaneck -Spoke with her on 4/7/15 - Nutrition student at Texas State - Worked at The Sustainable Food center in Austin - Has experience being the lead presenter in a cooking demonstration - Willing to commit to one presentation (I believe she would do more if we need her. I'm sorry I couldn't answer my phone on Wednesday but that is when we have our farmers market. Thursday morning I left for Minneapolis to spend Easter with my family. I will be back Monday night. The grant we are applying for is from the Texas Department of Agriculture. They would like us to partner with a nutritionist to put on four separate presentations at the farmers market. Our market is open every Wednesday from 3-7pm. The presentations need to take place between May 1 and November 15, 2015. The presentations need to showcase produce from the market and teach consumers about nutrition and preparing healthy meals. The grant will reimburse us to purchase/rent the equipment necessary (P.A. system, plates, utensils, canopy, chairs, food) and to advertise the events. We have a volunteer board that would be willing to help plan and prepare for the events as well. I look forward to speaking with you next week. Happy Easter! We are helping plan a big event at Belterra on Saturday, May 9th from noon to 4. We are thinking of having a watermelon bowling area and then give out some watermelon slices and other fruit. We thought this would be a great way to pull in the Dripping Springs Farmers Market. Is this something you think you would be interested in helping to plan and oversee? If so, let us know the prices for the watermelons and any other fees. We are expecting about 800 people at this event! 22 Thank you!
