Founder’s Day Commission
Bi-Monthly Meeting
March 26, 2018
Attending: Brenda Medcalf, Michael Monaghan, Brian Daniel, Stephanie Holtzendorf, Jake Adams, Brian Varnell, Paul
Sanchez, Sharon Goss.
Mariana Espinoza, Parks and Community Services director
Absent: Chris Nuccio, EvanTaddia.
I. Call to Order: 6:30 pm by Brenda Medcalf
II. Business:
A. Approval of Minutes from the Regular Meetings of March 12,2018.
• Motion made by Paul to accept the minutes as presented. Brian Daniel seconded. Minutes accepted.
B. Traffic Control and Parking for the 2018 Founders Day Festival.
• Friday entrances will be Old Fitzhugh and San Marcos Street. Exit will be Mercer Street out to RR12,
Wallace out to RR12. For cookers on Wallace on the side behind the Shell station down to Dan Tay’s
will exit College Street before noon.
• Saturday entrances will be College Street and Old Fitzhugh. Exit will be Mercer Street out to RR12.
• Sunday no in or out until the festival shuts down at approximately 6:00 pm unless there is heavy foot
traffic and the festival will be shut down later. Participants can start taking down booths, etc. starting at
5:00 pm.
• Exit plan for Sunday will be Mercer Street will be one way going out to RR12. Arts and Crafts will enter
College and Bluff and exit Mercer or Bluff/Bluff Springs.
• Officers will be stationed at Mercer and RR12 and Wallace and RR12.
• Streets will open to all traffic at approximately 8:00 pm.
C. Recommendation of Approval of 2018 Founders Day participation Agreements.
• Paul submitted contracts for Church of the Springs and J Bar Restrooms.
• Brad made a motion to accept the contracts. Mike seconded. Motion passed.
III. Standing Committee Reports
A. Site Plan:
• No Report
B. Food:
• No Report
C. Entertainment:
• May have someone to run second stage; however it may be too late to get acts lined up for it.

D. Arts & Crafts:
• Almost Full.
E. Parade
• Full with waiting list.
• Lyons club will have 10 -12 volunteers to help with the parade on Friday night.
F. Publicity
• Information and logos for the poster and banner at triangle need to be turned in by March 30.
G. Sponsorship/Underwriting
• $57,000 commitment so far.
• Security for VIP are needed. Would like to use some of the metal barricades to partition off the
VIP area.
• Extra budget may be needed for sponsorship.
• Treaty Oak is interested in participating in Founders Day. Jake suggested for this year they
could be in the area where South Point Dodge is located.
• Next year we need to think about how we can have the other area local businesses (Treaty
Oak, Twisted X. etc) participate in Founders Day.
• Brad suggested perhaps we could set up a ‘spirits area’ in the park lot at the end of the stage.
• There are concerns that opening it up to the local breweries will hurt the sales for Lyon’s Club.
