Greetings Mike,
I appreciate your time in reviewing the water leak issue that I presented to you yesterday. Here is what
occurred:
Tuesday 2/6/24: Around 8:30pm, I was notified the water pressure in one of the buildings was really
low. I told them that I would check it out in the morning.
Wednesday 2/7/24: Around 7:15am, I was notified that there was “a lake” in the park’s parking lot and
water was heavily bubbling out of the water pit — which is a covered croc where four water control
valves are located. I immediately called Bob Hurley and he went to the park and shut off the main line at
M-50. Bob then pumped out the pit to help identify where the leak was occurring. I then contacted a
professional company that operates a backhoe to do the dig-up work and also called Miss Dig.
Thursday 2/8/24: Miss Dig arrived shortly after 8:00am and identified utilities around the pit and it was
determined their would be no impact. Backhoe operator identified spot of broken water line as a park
owned line that runs into the pit, and not a Village line. Broken water line was repaired by same
company at a cost of $1675. Digging and line repair was completed under the guidance of Bob Hurley.
Bob Hurley estimated there was a loss of a half million gallons of water, which equates to an estimated
cost of $5400. The total estimated cost of water leak and repair is $7100. I asked Bob if anything could
be done to help us out with the anticipated water bill. He said he personally could not do anything and
he suggested to reach out to you.
In 2023, the Rod Park’s total water bill was $464.98. The estimated expense of $7100 is way out of our
budget. I’m requesting you and the Village to review this matter and to please make concessions on our
anticipated $5400 water bill and to help in any way you can with this hardship.
Dundee Recreation Commission is a 501C-3 non-profit organization that was established in 1955 and we
own Rod Park. We rent the park to community residents for graduation parties and family reunions, we
are the home of the summer youth baseball program and we donate our parking lot to the Township for
their annual “Clean-up Day”.
Thank you again Mike for your help in this matter and I appreciate your assistance.
