Jessica Moore seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Sherry DeVries reported on the May 16 Creative Entrepreneur Expo. She reported that 165 people attended, including presenters. Responses to the event have been very positive and the event received good media coverage. A survey of participants is currently underway. Renee Leverty reported that people she spoke with expressed surprise at how much useful information they got. She thanked the Durham Arts Council for its role in coordinating the event. DeVries reported that Wendy Feuer, a consultant provided by the NC Arts Council, will conduct a day-long visioning session on May 31 for the SmART Grant planning committee. Feuer was the art consultant for the RDU Airport expansion and is a senior staff member with the New York City Department of Transportation, overseeing the department’s public art program. On the evening of May 30 she will walk the Blackwell/Corcoran/Foster Street corridor with members of the planning committee. Peter Coyle reported that the City’s relevant departments are still reviewing the draft public art policy and implementation documents Leverty introduced artist Brenda miller Holmes to update the committee on the Civil Rights Mural project. Holmes reported that she is still trying to get building owner approvals for an appropriate wall, after the original location fell through because that building changed owners. At this point she is in discussions concerning the back wall of the Civic Center – next to the Durham Arts Council, the Chapel Hill Street wall of the Ninth Street Bakery and the back of the Kress Building, facing the Durham Performing Arts Center. She will be looking at other options, as well. Mark Hough reported that Liberty Arts is working on the “Bull City Sculpture” annual show to be juried with a purchase prize. They are looking at 2014 as a likely time for the first exhibit. Leverty reported that the organization is seeking corporate funding. The meeting adjourned at 9:08a.m. The next meeting will be Tuesday, June 25, 8:00am, at the Durham Arts Council.
