1. Initiatives:
a. Assess other regional and national Public Art Plans
b. Identify core areas of need (Programming, Training, Funding,
Mapping (areas that need public art), Collection assessment
c. Articulating the vision of a Public Art Plan and advocating for its
inclusion in the Durham Cultural Roadmap

iii. Goal 2: Support Capacity Building for Local Artists.
1. Initiatives:
a. Identify cultural, historic, public art, and creative opportunities
in the Comprehensive Plan and other City plans
b. Revise UDO advocacy letter to include Comp Plan initiatives,
examples and research (i.e. other cities that have similar UDOs
Boston and Atlanta, Greensboro), PAC presents to DCAB, PAC to
sign, release to Planning Department
2. Task force lead: Eliza Redmann
3. Task Force members: Chaves, Santiago, Iwinski
4. Next meeting and advocacy letter drafting – letter must be drafted for
staff review by Oct. 1, 2024, to present to DCAB ahead of their Oct. 16
meeting.

the City’s Comprehensive Plan, City's 2019 Durham Sesquicentennial Honors
Commission, and Durham Racial Equity Task Force's “2020 Report of the
Durham Racial Equity Task Force.”
b. Goal 2: Support Capacity Building for Local Artists.
c. Goal 3: The Public Art Committee will develop the skills needed to assess, identify and
address where implicit and explicit bias may impact or affect arts and culture in Durham,
in order to develop a set of best practices for public art with a focus on anti-racism,
community accountability and equity, and to uplift intergenerational, gender diverse,
racially diverse, and LGBTQIA+ artists.
