Durham Workers Rights Commission Meeting 02.22.2022- Virtually via Zoom Attendees: Hellen Zaragoza, Antonio Luster, Brian Powell, Council Member Jillian Johnson, Abigail Woten, De’Shaun Campbell, Lisa Pratt, Melanie Stratton Lopez, Mirlesna Azor Sterlin, and Nancy Kalow. Agenda Items: I. CALL TO ORDER: 6:04pm II. PUBLIC COMMENTS – No one spoke during public comments. III. MINUTES/OLD BUSINESS A. Note: Motion by Commissioner Powell, seconded by Commissioner Sterlin to approve the January 25, 2022 minutes. The vote to approve the minutes was unanimous. IV. COMMITTEE UPDATES: A. Note: Hellen Zaragoza on behalf of City Clerk’s Office was present for roll call. B. Council Member Johnson noted that she was looking into the Unionization of Starbucks nationwide and would report back with more information. C. A meeting had taken place with the leadership of the Southern Worker’s Assembly. Commissioner Powell volunteered to be the point of contact for constituent groups. V. NEW BUSINESS- A. A meeting with City Manager Page had taken place on February 18, 2022 to discuss proposed changes to the city grievance policy. A follow up meeting was tentatively scheduled for some time in May 2022. B. Motion by Commissioner Kalow, seconded by Commissioner Powell to approve Commissioner Woten as the Secretary to the Board. The vote to approve the Secretary position was unanimous.
