Durham Workers Rights Commission Meeting 03.22.2022- Virtually via Zoom Attendees: Ashlee Adams, Antonio Luster, Brian Powell, Council Member Jillian Johnson, Priscilla Smith, Abigail Woten, De’Shaun Campbell, Lisa Pratt, Melanie Stratton Lopez, Mirlesna Azor Sterlin, and Nancy Kalow. I. Agenda Items: II. CALL TO ORDER: 6:15pm III. PUBLIC COMMENTS – No one spoke during public comments. IV. MINUTES/OLD BUSINESS A. Note: Motion by Chair Luster, Commissioner Powell made the second to approve the February 22, 2022 minutes. The vote to approve the minutes was unanimous. Motion carried at 6:15pm. V. COMMITTEE UPDATES: A. Note: Ashley Wyatt on behalf of City Clerk’s Office was present for roll call. VI. B. Council Member Johnson asked for members of the subcommittee to be listed and to vote a member as subcommittee chair for the Durham Living Wage Project. VII. C. Commissioner Powell was selected for chair of Durham Living Wage Project Subcommittee. Motion carried at 6:21pm. VIII. ANNOUNCEMENTS- A. Chair Luster stated that the Southern Worker’s Assembly was creating an event for May Day;(TBD) possible date May 1st. IX. B. Chair Luster stated that the Starbuck’s location in Raleigh filed with Service Employee’s International Union for recognition with the National Labor Relations Board; No locations in Durham have been announced. X. C. Future event in the works, Chair Luster will bring forth more information in future meeting. XI. D. Commissioner Valerie Thelen submitted her resignation due to moving out of the area. XII. E. Council Member Johnson listed opportunities for May Day for the Worker’s Assembly; Southern Worker’s Assembly opportunities for participation in housing for those participating. XIII.
