CITY OF DUVALL CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MINUTES May 12, 2015 – 5:30 p.m. Duvall Police Department – 26225 NE Stephens Street Mayor Pro Tem Brudnicki called the meeting order at 5:30 p.m. Council present: Jason Walker, Becky Nixon, Amy Ockerlander, Leroy Collinwood, Scott Thomas, Dianne Brudnicki (absent: Gary Gill) Staff present: Chief Carey Hert, Commander Mark Lewis, Sergeant Lori Batiot, Segeant Kevin Hawley, Sergeant Michael DeBock, Provisional Sergeant Joe Eaton, Officer Steven Sabourin, Officer Brandon Rhodes, Officer Cory Clark, Officer Mark Blazer, Reserve Officer Bob Reife, Steve Leniszewski, Jodi Wycoff a. Police Department Sally Port Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Mayor Pro Tem Brudnicki opened the ceremony and introduced Police Chief Carey Hert. Chief Hert explained why the sally port project was important and what it provides to the Police Department. The sally port will be used for evidence storage as well as training and meeting space for the Department when a larger space is needed. Chief Hert thanked Council for their support of the project and staff for their assistance with the entire process. b. Police Department Program Reports Police Chief Carey Hert gave an update on recent activities in the Police Department including Sergeant DeBock receiving the Washington State Medal of Honor. Chief Hert said that the Civil Service Commission has been through changes recently including the retirement of former Commissioners and appointment of new Commissioners. The Commission is currently looking for a new Secretary/Chief Examiner. Chief Hert said that Shelley Rowe, Records Clerk, is the Department’s RAD (Rape Aggression Defense) instructor and she is in the middle of her second class this year for Duvall and anticipates providing two more classes this year. Chief Hert then gave a report of upcoming events including Duvall Days and National Night Out. Chief Hert introduced Commander Mark Lewis who gave a report on the policy changes he is working on. Chief Hert then introduced Sergeant Kevin Hawley, Sergeant Michael DeBock, Sergeant Lori Batiot and Provisional Sergeant Joe Eaton who each gave reports on the specific programs within the Police Department that they are in charge of. Provisional Sergeant Eaton introduced the newest members of the Police Department: Officer Brandon Rhodes, Officer Cory Clark and Officer Mark Blazer. Chief Hert then introduced Civil Service Commissioner David Burke who gave an update on the work he is doing within the Commission including updating the Civil Service Rules. Lastly, Chief Hert thanked Sandy DuVall of DuVall’s Dazzling Design for assisting with the various needs of the officers for their uniforms. Adjournment The Committee of the Whole adjourned at 6:28 p.m. for a reception of refreshments.
