Minutes were approved upon motion by C. Cortese, seconded by D. Winter. Community Organizations: Library: Friends of the Montauk Library annual Book Fair on July 4-5 was a great success. Denise thanked all volunteers and patrons. Composting: Food scraps are collected every Saturday from 10am to noon at the Community Garden CCOM: Annual Soiree at Gurney’s July 16 6-8 pm Rell Sunn Surf Contest: Annual event all day July 11, including surf contest and art auction. Visit web site shredthelove.com Third House Nature Center: Two upcoming lectures (July 11 and August 1) and an exhibit on Montaukett Indian Nation Playhouse: Hampton Jazz Concert (Latin jazz) on August 8 at 7pm; sta is now on site. Councilperson Report/Updates: D. Lys Town has opened ADU loan assistance program providing 10 no interest loans of $100,000 each as part of a ordable housing initiatives. Recreation: New life guard program “Beach Guardians” at Ditch and Atlantic Avenue beaches to teach adults how to swim in the ocean (9-10am Saturday and Sunday); pickleball ribbon cutting in Wainscott - recognized R. Cortell for his advocacy; Fisher House work ongoing Capital Projects: West Lake Dock work will start next week and continue for a few weeks; A. Sosinski requested installation of a ladder on the bulkhead and D. Lys agreed to address; Playhouse roof replacement staging will begin right away; Sidewalk work continues on OMH; ACOE still xing crossovers and then will demobilize from Kirk Park Lot Safety: EHPD received 1200 calls over the weekend; bad tra c backups; for help, call 631-537-7575 Q&A: Q: Motorists are ignoring nonstop ashing crosswalk lights creating risk A: Equipment is required to x this; Town has to handle as capital project Q: Ugly orange stanchions on Green to deter drunk drivers A: These are lled with water and are temporary Q: Status on Este? Dominguez told MCAC outside work would be completed by end of July, yet no work has been done for weeks; is there a stop work order? A: No update; D. Lys didn’t know about any stop work order, but R. Whalen said there is not one Q: Town Board resolution authorized legal investigation and action if Barlume Beach (old Rick’s Crabby) is out of compliance with applicable Code Q: Uber drivers are sleeping in cars and leaving garbage all over Montauk A: Will look into this and address it ff ffi ff fl fi ff fi fi  MONTAUK CITIZENS’ ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES July 6, 2026 Q: Why are there cones on the shoulder outside Surf Lodge? A: Under discussion; FYI EH Fire Marshal visits Surf Lodge every night to check on capacity enforcement Q: Eagle exit onto Main Street sight lines blocked by advertising signs A: State has control; signs are supposed to be for nonpro ts only; they are left up too long Q: Train station parking lot is used by Surf Lodge patrons; can they get tickets? A: MTA controls that lot; Town has been trying for years to take over; 72 hour parking allowed Q: “Sunset Beach” lot has guard rails that make it hard to access beach; trash cans are needed now that there is more tra c there A: Carry out baskets could go there; glass is still on the new beach; will address concerns Q: EV charging spots in “White’s Lot” are NOT reserved for EV’s only and signs should say so A: It’s “implied” that spots are not reserved Q: Kudos to all who coordinated e ort to remove the dead whale Q: Gin Beach east jetty osprey nest was been repeatedly disturbed by people climbing on the jetty tower - fencing needed to protect nest A: Coast Guard has jurisdiction; will try to speak with them Q: What happened with the County hotel/motel tax distribution? A: The changes passed and are awaiting Governor’s signature. About 2/3 of the money requested for Montauk was approved. Q: How many parking tickets have been issued using license plate readers? Please arrange for EHPD to return to MCAC for enforcement update A: Will ask EHPD to come back Q: Can we arrange for live streaming of these MCAC meetings?
