Village of East Troy Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes – February 12, 2018 Present: President Gary Budzien, Trustee John Alexander, Director Vickie Muszynski, Public Works Jason Equitz, Commissioners Jim Holm, Geri Mayotte, Annie Van Buren, Steve Rostkowski, Debbie Arendt Call to order – President Budzien called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm. Approve Park & Recreation Commission minutes from January 8, 2018 - Motion by Trustee Alexander and Second by Commissioner Holm to approve the minutes dated January 8, 2018. Motion carried. Revenue/Expenditure Report – Nothing new to report. The baseball fees still have not been paid which is getting behind. A follow-up on this will need to be done soon. Motion by Commissioner Mayotte and Second by Commissioner Van Buren to approve. Motion carried. Director’s Report – Muszynski is working on the 2018 Summer Guide. Sashie Ehlke (employed at neighboring Park & Recs) is being hired to teach archery. Archery Range –The Lions Club is working on getting a contractor for the pavilion. The club has raised $2,200 toward the materials and they will cover the difference of the cost. High school student Houston Widener is working on the project of fencing. At our next meeting we will set a date for a grand opening. Parking Lots – Equitz asked for opinions on what the commission feels is a priority for parking lot paving. The board agreed with Equitz that the parking lot at Mill Pond could wait a year. The archery range and parking lot at the Village Hall needs to be completed. Discussion followed regarding the most efficient and safest way to pave (including changes) at Mitchell Field. The board feels that this area/ lot should be done as soon as possible. Class participation for 2018 – Muszynski did a complete comparison and breakdown of classes from 2016 to 2017. Overall, number of total participants was higher in 2017. Non-resident participation was up higher and resident participation was down. The reason we believe it could be is because we (East Troy) has more classes to choose from and neighboring residents come to us. For summer of 2018 classes, Commissioner Van Buren told Muszynski that the summer school normal dates are a week later this year so it could be a benefit to hold some camps/classes earlier. Mill Pond Park – The commission agreed that we need to look further into ways to promote Mill Pond Park. Facebook is one possibility for advertising what is available at Mill Pond. For the future we would like to keep and expand our trails. In addition, adding a sidewalk into town and possibly a bridge. Commissioner Rostkowski will be having a group of high school students assisting in clean-up of this area starting February 26. ETHS students – The high school students working with Rostkowski are also available to assist in other projects and clean-up around the village. Rostkowski asked that we contact him for any areas where they can be of assistance. Adjourn – Motion by Commissioner Van Buren to adjourn the meeting at 7:35 pm. Second by Trustee Alexander.
