Meeting Minutes – May 14, 2018
Present: Trustee John Alexander, Director Vickie Muszynski, Commissioners- Jim
Holm, Geri Mayotte, Annie Van Buren, Steve Rostkowski
Call to order – Jim Holm called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm.
Approve Park & Recreation Commission minutes from April 9, 2018 - Motion by
Commissioner Van Buren and Second by Commissioner Mayotte to approve the
minutes dated April 9, 2018. Motion carried.
Revenue/Expenditure Report – Nothing new to report. Motion by Trustee Alexander
and Second by Commissioner Mayotte to approve. Motion carried.
Director’s Report – Muszynski has finished the 2018 Summer Guide, Century Fence
has completed the North Ball field at Mitchell Park. Tickets are in for the summer
discount program. All advertisers for the Movies in the Park are set.
Archery Range –The Lions Club will be working on the pavilion the end of May. High
school student Houston Widener is working on the project of fencing and will be
working on that the end of May, to complete his Eagle Scout Project. The next
meeting, we will discuss the ideas for the grand opening of the archery range.
Playmore Park Pavilion- Muszynski informed the commission that they have stained
the poles and wood at the pavilion and have seeded the area that needed restoration.
Walking Trails at Lake Bluff Subdivision- Van Buren presented the commission with
drawings and maps of the Lake Bluff Subdivision with proposed walking trails. She
has previously talked with Jason Equitz and he thought this would be doable as it
would only require mowing a path. Suggestions were made to notify homeowners so
they would be aware that people would be walking in areas they may not have seen
walkers in previously. Parking would only be available on the road. The commission
was very positive on this idea and would like to meet at the site to see the possibilities.
This item will be included on the next agenda for action. If the project could be
started this summer and finished next year as there is one area that would be more
intense on clearing.
Safety Surface- Muszynski informed the commission that they have received prices
for installing safety surfaces at the parks that currently have sand as a safety surface.
The benefits of having a poured in place surface are that there is no maintenance and
the bees are a concern to park goers. Bees have been nesting in the sand and cause a
danger to those at the park. Exterminators are called in and the parks are shut down.
There are 3 parks with sand; Lyndale Park, the swing set at Playmore Park and the
Play structure at Mitchell Park. We would like to move forward with replacing 1
surface next year and then 1 each year after. These items would be placed on the
capital improvement budget. Holm asked if Pea Gravel would still be an option.
Muszynski was going to check into that option.
Adjourn – Motion by Trustee Alexander to adjourn the meeting at
7:15 pm. Second by Commissioner Rostkowski, Motion approved.
Respectfully Submitted,
Vickie Muszynski
