City Council - Appointment Committee

Appointments Committee Meeting – August 5, 2024 In-person meeting at 50 Payson Ave., 2nd floor Small Conference Room Councilor Riley called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm. At room #2 Meeting Minutes: Approval of the minutes, of March 4, May 1st June 3rd, and June 17th motion was made by Councilor Smith and seconded by Councilor Gomez. The vote was 3 to 0 in favor May 13th motion was made by Councilor Smith and seconded by Councilor Gomez. The vote was 2-0-1 councilor Riley abstained July 22nd motion was made by Councilor Gomez and seconded by Councilor Riley vote was 2-0-1 councilor smith abstained Public Speak Time: None Present: Chair Councilor Riley, Councilor Gomez, Councilor Smith, Steve Coughlin ,Leslie Horner Button New Business: Steve Coughlin Board of Health Expiration term Dec 31,2026 Councilor Riley started introducing Steve to the committee and then let Steve to address to the committee and explaining why he is interested in serving on this board , Steve was a traveling nurse and he is registered nurse , he stated that he used to work in Arizona with the native American population and then move to Easthampton and works for a private company and also used to work at the emergency room at the Cooley Dickinson Hospital, Steve stated to the committee that he is not working as a nurse at the moment of of the meeting. The motion was made by Councilor Smith and seconded by Councilor Gomez for the appointment of Steve Coughlin to the Board ,vote was 3-0 in favor . Leslie Horner Button Council on Aging Dec. 31, 2024 Leslie was at the meeting and stated to the committee she moved to Easthampton in 2015 from Hatfield to her her mom. Leslie used to work as librarian , Leslie stated tha she was responsible of working with a 7 million budget and that speak multiples language and was responsible for 6 different departments at her former job. Leslie retired in 2020. Leslie talked about the importance of having a new senior center and she want help with her expertise at the council on Aging. The motion was made to recommend Leslie Horner Button by Councilor Smith and seconded by Councilor Gomez, the vote was in favor 3-0 The committee also recommend the appointment of Leslie Tane Commission on Disability Dec. 31, 2024 Dave DelVecchio EDIC Dec. 31, 2024 The motion was made by Councilor Smith and seconded by Councilor Gomez, the vote was in favor 3-0 The motion to adjourn was made by Councilor Smith and seconded by Councilor Gomez, The vote was 3- 0 in favor The meeting was adjourned at 6:45 pm Respectfully submitted by Councilor Gomez
