Public Safety Committee Minutes April 9, 2024 Members present: Councilor Zaret, Councilor Derby, Councilor Riley Members absent: Also in Attendance: Councilor Gomez Meeting called to order by Councilor Zaret at 6:00 pm 1. Public Speak Time: 2. Approval of the February 27th meeting notes: Councilor Riley made a motion to approve, Councilor Zaret seconded, Vote: 2-0, approved, Councilor Derby abstained. 3. Continuing Business: Amendments to the Traffic Rules & Orders, Appendix A: Councilor Zaret gave an overview of the recommendations for parking fine updates, raise the fine from $20 to $50 and raise parking in Handicap parking spaces from $50 to $250. Councilor Derby made a motion to amend the Traffic Rules and Orders, Appendix A, Sec. 1-33, subsection (d) to read two-hundred fifty dollars ($250.00) in lieu of the current fifty dollar fine and to correspondingly change Sec. 1-77 (Penalties) code 16 also to two-hundred fifty dollars ($250.00). Councilor Riley seconded, 3-0 Approved. Ordinance Committee Final Report: Councilors discussed striking items from the recommendations of the Ordinance Review Committee’s final report. Sec. 6-8, strike loitering was recommended by Public Safety and Ordinance Committees. Sec. 6-9 Dangerous weapons is outdated. Ad hoc and Public Safety voted to strike that. Derby Motion to strike sec 6-8 and 6-9 in accordance with recommendations. Riley Second, 3-0 Approved. Next regular meeting: TBD Councilor Derby made motion to adjourn, Councilor Riley seconded.
