ECA - Public Art Subcommittee Wednesday November 17, 2021 Meeting Minutes 5:00 Public Speak – Pasqualina announced that ECA is moving towards applying to become a 501c3 Approval of October 20th meeting minutes – Marcia moved to approve, Jean-Pierre seconded and all were in approval The artist whose proposal was chosen for the Ferry Street Gateway to the Mills sculpture amended his design to address the committee’s concern of readability. No new renderings were submitted. He also confirmed for the committee that the sculpture will be installed to face northeast, perpendicular to the bike path. He reported that the donation of fabrication and related costs was rescinded raising the project’s price to an excess of the grant. The committee discussed various ideas to keep costs in-line and finding another fabricator. Bob agreed to contact Jay Ryan a local business owner with experience in the field who might be able to provide recommendations. It was decided that the 2022 Winterfest deadline for installation of sculpture can be dropped to better accommodate the shortened schedule. The artist was advised on other possible sources of funds to investigate. Denise will post a special meeting for December 1st 5:00 via Zoom to determine if the committee can move forward with the current proposal or needs to move onto the runner-up proposal. The committee renewed its commitment to the Volunteer Sculpture for the Nashawannuck Boardwalk. Pasqualina informed the committee that funds might be available through the 2022 Cottage Street Cultural District grant being applied for through the MCC. Another source of funding might be the River Valley Co-Op. She asked the committee if their schedules allowed to research other municipal grant opportunities.
