ECA - Public Art Subcommittee Meeting Minutes Wednesday August 2nd, 2023 5:00 Public Speak – n/a Approval of July 5th meeting minutes – Tracey motioned for the approval; Marcia seconded and all agreed. New City Neighborhood Infrastructure project – MVP Grant recipients have been decided. The awards will be announced later. It was agreed that a tentative timeline needs to be established to keep the committee’s priorities organized. Pasqualina and Jamie will meet to review, and Pasqualina will draft and send an RFP to committee members for any revisions before next meeting on 9/6. Public Sculpture on Cottage Street – Pasqualina drafted an announcement, and it was sent to Michael M., Michael T., Janna and Piper for their review. Once finalized it will be released. Pasqualina will establish a relationship with Mass Live’s cultural liaison. Activating the Manhan Bike Trail with Art – Ideas were discussed, especially a new mural. Marcia mentioned the Phillips warehouse on Ward Avenue and that the graffiti has recently been cleaned off the building’s wall facing the bike path. This will be an ongoing agenda item. City areas will be prioritized, projects will be finalized, and a budget will be assigned. Update on finances – Committee reviewed finances. Jamie reaffirmed monies in account are earmarked for maintenance of existing public art. Committee will review the 2018 Public Art Assessment doc. Next steps for repairing/replacing mural on Pine Street - n/a Tracey strongly recommended we schedule a community event. There has been a lull in community gatherings since Covid and she thinks folks are looking for more engagement. Bob noted it would be good for the public to see/meet who organizes the public art in town. Possibly revive Have a Heart for Public Art fundraiser in February 2024.
