ECA - Public Art Subcommittee January 23, 2024, 5:15 pm Meeting Minutes 5:15 Public Speak – n/a Approval of December 6th meeting minutes – Tracey made a motion to approve, Bob seconded, all agreed. The chosen applicant for the Emerald Place Grant signed a contract with the City. The applicant also participated in a site visit hosted by the Planning Dept., in the New City neighborhood. There is a tentative plan of holding three meetings; two “Meet & Greets” with the community in late January/early February, one possibly held on the 8th. And the third meeting where the participants will work alongside the chosen applicant with clay. Tracey spoke with Casey about Galaxy hosting the Have a Heart for Public Art Fundraiser. He agreed to provide the restaurant and food for the event. He asked that the committee provide details about what the funds raised will be used for. Tracey will follow up with Casey regarding dates, (Sunday, April 21st or second choice 14th) the # of volunteers needed, minimum number of guests. Other details discussed were a silent auction, tying the event into Poetry Month, and entertainment. Marcia suggested singers performing springtime ballads. The dates for the Cottage Street sculpture installation ceremony are still being discussed but narrowed to the 4th through 11th of May. Depending on the event happening on a weekday verses a weekend the ceremony will need to be altered. Pasqualina will check if a city permit is needed. She will also talk with John about the use of the boardwalk. Pasqualina will contact Pat Foster/The Water is Fine regarding attendee overflow onto her patio area and ask if Pat would like to participate somehow in the event. Mt Tom’s will be asked about a special ice cream flavor that will be served at the celebration. The committee talked at length about the Pine Street mural and whether to refurbish or replace it. Jamie mentioned that we need to ask the building owner’s permission beforehand. Pasqualina noted that the mural is faded but the paint is in good condition and that the committee, and a few other volunteers could refurbish the mural. Denise mentioned the $$ raised from Have a Heart for Public Art Fundraiser could be used for this project. Marcia is pleased with the idea of the mural being refurbished. Jamie mentioned looking at the Public Art Assessment for other pieces of art that might need the attention and funds more that the Pine St mural. Pasqualina will reach out to Peggy Grose/mural artist. Activating the Manhan Bike Trail with Art - prioritize city areas, projects, and a budget. – n/a Tracey has joined the Easthampton Cultural Council. The council has emphasized public art as a priority and a few members will attend a future meeting. ECA has discussed organizing a Public Art Crawl as part of a future Art Walk. Committee members would be asked to host at different sites. Next meeting Wednesday, February 7th at 5:15pm
