Public Art Meeting Minutes 11/6/24 Public Speak: Update on Planning director. 4th qualified candidate is up for review. There will be a second interview soon and we are hopeful that the position will finally get filled. Approval Of October Minutes: Bob made a motion to approve, and JP seconded the motion. Updates. Pine street Mural refurbishing: The Mural will be finished by Friday November 8th. It took longer than expected but is going well. Rich LaBombard has graciously lent his ladder and scaffolding which really helped with the project. People are really responding to the refurbishing and are sharing stories of what the mural means to them. The committee is really pleased on how well the refurbishing has been received. The significance of honoring Cottage Street Artists with Peggy’s mural and Janna & Piper’s sculpture was also brought up. Tracey will take the photo once the mural is complete for website and merchandise to sell. We discussed puzzles and tote bags. Tracey will reach out to David Kutcher as he had some puzzles that he was selling a while back to see where he sourced his. Public unveiling Event will take place on 11/16/24 @ 2:00pm (rain date 11/17/24) We talked about how to promote the event and what we would speak about. The idea of a Story Share seemed in line with all the stories the community were sharing as Pasqualina was on site painting. Pasqualina was going to reach out, if possible, to some of the neighbors who stopped and shared their stories to see if they would share at the event. We discussed having a mic on hand so folks attending could hear over traffic. Pasqualina will ask Steve from Luthiers to see if we can obtain one from him. Addition to Artist Contract: Pasqualina added a paragraph to the artist contract regarding ownership and upkeep And shared the agreement with the committee. We also discussed the “Center of the Universe” sculpture which came up as Brenden walked Pasqualina though the process of upkeep on his sculpture. The committee then discussed Brendan’s materials and reimbursing him for his cost . Update On website: The page to include Mill Side Park and Boardwalk Sculptures has not yet been added. Easthampton Storyscape- Question on whether vent been installed and edges filed down? Tracey will speak to Janna to get an update on that as well as the write up that Janna was going to do for the QR Code & website. New Plaque to Match “Center of the Universe” Plaque: Pasqualina checked on Price for plaque and got a quote for $400. JP will contact the trophy company to see if there is another option. Page 1 of 2 New Business Mosaic Mural: Easthampton Clay is open to partnering with us to work on a mosaic mural. Discussion on where we might be able to install a mosaic mural. A few places were discussed, one being the side of The Botaniste Building. Marcia thought the factory by Williston campus might be a choice but a discussion on whether a painted mural might work better on that building was also discussed. Pasqualina was going to reach out to Lori? from the New England Mosaic Society as a possible source of info. Have a Heart for Public Art Brunch 2025: The committee decided on March 9th as the date for the Public Art Brunch. Marcia will be traveling but can help with getting the singers to come again. Paint for Bike Racks: Fleury does not carry the brand we use (Rust-Oleum Hammer Finish) but will order if we want to use the same brand of paint. Marcia asked DPW about a Cottage Street Sign.
