Meeting minutes 3.31.2021 call to order by Beth Tiffany 6:35
Beth Tiffany read Mayor LaChapelle’s Policy #9 for Suspending Certain Provisions of the Open Meeting Law….. due to Covid.
Roll call, Beth Tiffany, Marylou Dodge, Elaine Wood, Amy Marsters all present
Guests: Paul Davis
Last month’s meeting minutes motioned by Elaine seconded by Amy for approval.
Amy reported on the meeting 3.11.2021 with Mayor LaChapelle about forming a 501C3 “Friends of the Nash Pond”. She gave her
full support and told us to have Julie Kling the attorney from Northampton that is helping us with this process to keep in touch with
Mark Tanner city attorney from Bacon & Wilson and to let her know when we are talking to him so she can see about covering his
fees thru the city. She suggested perhaps Mo from the Chamber of Commerce would be able to suggest people to volunteer for the
positions we will need, also perhaps, Peg Conniff, Dan Rist or Tom Peake or his girlfriend Kelsey. Elaine suggested Mike Tautznik.
ACTION - Amy will delineate positons needed and draft a letter to be sent for positions and will ask for an update from Julie Kling.
No update from Paul Nowak about the herbicide treatment for invasive plants this year. The Conservation permit expires in April
but I believe I saw an email that Gary Golas renewed it.
ACTION - Paul please confirm permit has been renewed.
Siltation basin restoration is complete. In the spring there has to be a bit of work done, plantings, cleaning the parking lot, etc.
account balance as of 2/22/2021 $77,002.57, restoration fee of $40,00 has been paid on 3/5/21
Cyanobacteria conversation with input from Paul Davis, who is well versed in water quality, etc. We talked about looking into a self
test kit, which may be used for ourselves before sending to CT lab. Beth will send test data to Paul Davis to review and perhaps try
to find a test kit from Abraxis that would work and perhaps save us some money. Paul Davis also thought we could ask Solitude if it
would be prudent to treat the algae along with macrophytes that would help the cyanobacteria situation.
ACTION - Paul, can you or Gary ask Solitude about treating for algae? see above
ACTION - Beth will send test data to Paul Davis
ACTION – Beth to get 2021 testing quote from CT lab.
Beth reported we only have 14 sweatshirts left. Beth will get a quote but probably wait till fall to reorder, most sales are fall to
before xmas. Have enough t shirts. Lots of bags, we get a monthly check form Big E. Water’s Fine paid $771.66 in sales for us and
Wedgeworks has to pay us, Beth to follow up.
Donations total $900 in Memory of Beth’s Mom.
Discussed City Wide Clean up – we feel it is important but don’t feel we have the organizational skill to do it without Liz. Marylou
volunteered to learn. But need info from Liz.
ACTION - Elaine is going to talk to Mayor about the city clean up situation.
Amy & Marylou want to be part of the Farmer’s Market this summer.
ACTION - Beth will get info from Julie at Crooked Stick about the Farmers Market, as she ran it last year.
Discussed concern about committee members and should we ask the city to have more members. Kisha has still not joined us; Amy
will reach out to be sure she is still interested. Liz once she gets settled with her move, will decide and communicate her intentions,
please.
Next meeting 4/28 6:30; Meeting adjourned 7:48
