City Council

A Regular Meeting of the Arts Council Sub-Committee was held at City Hall, 200 S. Main St., Eaton Rapids, MI 48827 on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at 5:30PM. Chair Sebastian called the meeting to order at 5:31 P.M. Present were Sub-Committee Members Carmody, O’Connell, Sengstock (Alternate), Overla (Alternate) and Board Chair Sebastian. Absent was Sub-Committee Members Schrader & Hemingway Also Present was Director of Parks, Recreation & Events, Cagle & Council Member Malewski Committee Member Carmody moved to approve the agenda of April 14, 2026, regular meeting be approved as written; seconded by Committee Member Overla, passed unanimously. Committee Member Carmody moved to approve the minutes of March 10, 2026, regular meeting be approved as written; seconded by Committee Member Overla, passed unanimously. Public Comments None. Unfinished Business 5.1 Chair Sebastian led a discussion on Art in the Park, part of the Eaton Rapids Summer Kickoff Event on June 6, 2026. Chair Sebastian is ordering 8” Letters from Your Creative Escape for the community art project this year. O’Connell discussed doing Squirt Gun Tye-Dye. 5.2 Chair Sebastian led a discussion on the Flower Pot Painting planned for Saturday, May 9th from 12:00PM-2:00PM. Carmody, O’Connell, Sebastian and Overla plan to attend. We need table covers and floor covering for upstairs City Hall. New Business 6.1 Director Cagle led the group on a Master Plan discussion regarding what is needed in Eaton Rapids in terms of Art. The group discussed the need to Increase Public Art Displays by developing a Mural Ordinance that goes along with the Public Arts Policy. The group continued discussion on possible events that could be brought to life in the future – Music performances, Poetry, Amphitheater rentals, Photo Contests, Food Truck Rally, etc. Public Comments None. Correspondence Director Cagle informed the group that he had ordered Chalk Board paint as well as brown pain to repaint the chalkboards in the Alley. The group has planned to repaint the boards on Tuesday, April 14 th at 5:30PM.
