Patron stories
A patron visited the library today to use the public
computers. She is currently battling that her identity has
been stolen. I helped her navigate the necessary online
forms to freeze her credit and to file identity theft
reports to the IRS. She did not feel super comfortable
navigating the computer, so I helped her troubleshoot Patron came in looking to find a friend on
each time she got stuck. (She was better than she made social media (she's new to social media). She
herself out to be.) She was so grateful for the time and the friend worked together for 20 years
spent with her to reach her goal of filing the reports and and then went their separate ways due to life
printing next steps. Upon leaving she said, "Thank you circumstances. They lost touch. After the
patron got set up on one of EPL's public
again for all of your help and being here today. You
computers and navigated through social media
made my day." (with the help of ref staff), she found her
friend online and started crying. Ref staff
helped her send a friend request and navigate
to messaging feature to reach out to her friend
in hopes of reconnecting.

2025 Public Library Services for Strong Communities Survey
PLA administered this survey in fall 2025 to understand the public library programs, services,
partnerships, and facilities geared towards meeting needs and fostering resilient
