United Power is limited to generating 5% of their own power. Excel is not regulated. Net metering: solar panels supply power to nearby source and then additional power that goes back to the grid can be surplus lower cost on a bill. Community power: Infrastructure can be put into place which can then be sold/leased back to individuals/companies from alternative sources such as solar. Community batteries: Large utility scale battery banks – peak shaving & load shifting. More useful to larger businesses. Both United Power & Excel collect franchise fee that goes back to the town.
