Escondido Public Library Board of Trustees Special Meeting Minutes Tuesday, May 1, 2018, 10:30 a.m. CALL TO ORDER: Meeting Leader Debbie Joy called the meeting to order at 10:30 a.m. Members Present: President Ron Guiles and Trustees Elmer Cameron, Mayra Salazar and Elmer Cameron Members Absent: Trustee Gary Knight, Mirek Gorney Staff Present: Joanna Axelrod, Director of Communications and Community Services Pioneer Room Friends Board Present: Michael Bagstad Friends of Literacy Board Present: Cynthia Chisum, Donna Shaw Friends of the Library Board Present: Linda Faulkner, Christel Luther, Judy Tisdale, Georgia Chonko, Linda Atkinson Escondido Library Foundation Board Present: Jack Anderson LS&S Staff Present: Barbara Howison — Regional Director; Patricia Crosby — Library Director; Faith McLaughlin — Administrative Coordinator, Debbie Joy — Meeting Leader Members of the Public Present: Armin Luther Agenda Item 1. Joint Library Board of Trustees Workshop with Escondido Library Foundation, Friends of the Escondido Library, Pioneer Room Friends, and Friends of Literacy Services to discuss Library Strategic Plan Meeting Leader Debbie Joy opened the meeting with outlining how the Strategic Process works and opened the discussion up with the question, "Where do we want our library to be in 5 years?" Meeting Leader Joy also asked "How can we embody that?" to the group. Suggestions included: • Partnering with the schools more • Attract new library users • More publicity and advertising of library services • Bring back the Bookmobile to use as marketing tool • Business partnerships  • New Library Request that a new library facility or expanded library building be added to one of the goals of the Strategic Plan that gets presented to the City Council since it has been a goal of the library previously.
