Workshop Item 14140 City Manager Profile Development Dianne Kramer, Acting City Manager, explained the purpose of the workshop to discuss as a group the profile for the City Manager candidates and the process to be used for the search. Ann Isaacs, Human Resources Director, introduced Andrea Sims from the Waters Group. Andrea Sims, Executive Recruiter with the Waters Group, commented on her individual meetings with City staff and the Commissioners. She presented to the Commissioners a draft ad and timeline, a survey for the community and staff and advertising schedule. She noted where the ad will be placed including the ICMA and Florida League of Cities. She reviewed the preliminary timeline and stated that the following week she would forward to the City a draft brochure that will be direct mailed to individuals nationwide in the City Manager field. She asked to receive the survey from the Commissioners within a week. She explained that the strongest candidates will be sent a survey to determine more information regarding their specific experience and to provide due diligence on their backgrounds. She further explained that the Commissioners will be provided a candidate profile book for each of the finalists to determine the number for interview. She estimated that the final interviews should be able to be held either the end of August or first of September. She noted that a detailed background will be performed on each of the finalists. II. Commission Discussion The Commission asked about the preliminary timeline with Ms. Sims indicating she would coordinate with Ann Isaacs and the Commissioner schedules. The Commission discussed the preference for experience as either a City Manager or an Assistant City Manager in relation to the proposed salary level. It was suggested that the advertising include a salary range rather than state the mid-$100, OOO's. The Commission and Ms. Sims discussed the short timeframe with Ms. Sims explaining her preference for a short turnaround. She indicated she would inform the City if a problem arose with the timeframe. The Commission asked about the number of candidates currently seeking City Manager positions with Ms. Sims responding there are more people looking due to the number of positions opening up and increase in retirements. Commission Direction CONSENSUS: It was a consensus of the Commission for staff and Ms. Sims to move forward with the process. The Commission expressed concern about the availability of all the Commissioners with Ms. Kramer asking the Commission to inform Ms. Isaacs if they have any definite dates they will not be available.
