CITY OF EVERETT CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION MINUTES January 9, 2018 – 5 pm Everett Public Library Training Room Commissioners Present: Kati Nickerson, Alison Musch, Deb Fox, Elizabeth Person, Cat Snapp, Kristin Keenan, Yasmin Wisecarver Baron, Hugh Denny, Diane Wright, Jason Grim, Maren Oates, Jessica Pavish. Commissioners Absent: Cheryl Davis and Rosemary Jones Staff present: Carol Thomas, Lisa Newland, Lori Cummings, Kimberly Shelton Introduction of new Commissioners: Jason Grim, Alison Musch & Cat Snapp Acceptance of Minutes: Maren Oates motioned to accept the minutes of December 5, 2017. Seconded by Jessica Pavish. No discussion. All approved. Mark your calendars: Wendt & Mayor’s Arts Awards – Thursday, February 8, 6-9 p.m. Fisherman’s Village Music Festival- March 30 – April 1 Sorticulture, June 8-10 Wendt & Mayor’s Arts Awards updates  Commissioners- greeters – arrive by 5:45  Commissioner Kati Nickerson- dress rehearsal with award recipients- 5:30 pm Introduction of Mayor’s Arts Awards recipients:  Mary Peterson/ Maren Oates  Historic Everett Theatre/ Hugh Denny  Isabella Valencia/ Jason Grim  Kristin Boswell Keenan/ Cat Snapp  Lee Matthews/ Diane Wright  Steve Tomkins/ Kati Nickerson Broadway Corridor Project Presentation of selected artist, Brian Borrello Elizabeth Person Recommendation to City Council Carol Thomas Motion to approve use of 1% funds not to exceed $80,000: Diane Wright Second: Elizabeth Person All were in favor. Evergreen Branch Library Artist, Christine Clark’s proposal for art installation Carol Thomas Commissioner Reports Kristin Keenan: there will be an Everett Maker’s Market at the Scuttlebutt tap room February 10 Jason Grim: will have an art opening at Solies Funeral Home on January 18 Maren Oates: Timothy C Eli will have a lecture at the Schack on January 19th, 7 pm. The Scholastic Art Awards will be held February 12th at the Civic Auditorium Kati Nickerson: Newsies, the musical is underway and getting great reviews. Newsies will run until Feb 4. Council Liaison Report: no report Next Meeting: February 13, 2018, 5 pm Black Lab Gallery (1618 Hewitt Avenue) followed by a tour of the Rockefeller Hotel Art Studios (1806 Hewitt) Adjourn 6:10 p.m.
