CITY OF EVERETT CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION MINTUES April 10, 2018 Everett Performing Arts Center- Anderson Room Commissioners Present: Alison Musch, Rosemary Jones, Kati Nickerson, Cheryl Davis, Deb Fox, Diane Wright, Cat Snapp, Kristen Keenan, Hugh Denny, Elizabeth Person, Jason Grim, Maren Oates. Commissioners Absent: Jessica Pavish, Yasmin Wisecarver-Baron Staff: Carol Thomas, Kimberly Shelton, Lisa Newland Guests: Curt Shriner, Mary Toews, David Stalheim Acceptance of March Minutes: Kati Nickerson made a motion to accept March minutes. Jason Grim seconded. All in favor. None opposed. Curt Shriner of the Historic Everett Theatre explained that the theatre is for sale. He is working with several people in hopes of being able to buy it and preserve the history. It is a challenging place to keep up as it is 117 years old. He would like to get the Everett downtown community more involved and get more support for the theatre. He asked the commissioners for any fundraising/sponsorship ideas. Mary Toews of Mari’s Place made a presentation with three of her students show casing the benefit of her after-school programs. Her programs serve many different cultures and ethnicities. The art, dance and music classes help students develop self- confidence, curiosity, giving back to their communities and encourage playfulness. Her students gave heartfelt speeches about the benefits of Mari’s Place and showed their artwork. David Stalheim, City of Everett Long Ranger Planner presented Metro Everett. He explained the option that developers could purchase art for the downtown core if they wanted to increase building heights. The Cultural Commission will be tasked with helping select the artwork that would become part of the City’s collection. More information at www.everettwa.gov/metro. Public Workshop to discuss Metro Everett is April 25, 6 pm, Everett Station Weyerhaeuser Room. 125th Celebration, Cat Snapp will bring her printing press to the 125th celebration and print postcards that families can color. Rosemary Jones, Elizabeth Person and Deb Fox will each create a 5 x 7 illustration. Jason Grim has opened an art store in the Rockafeller and offered art supplies for the project at a discount.
