CITY OF EVERETT CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION MINUTES June 12, 2018 – 5 pm Van Valey House 2130 Colby Avenue Commissioners Present: Jason Grim, Maren Oates, Hugh Denny, Alison Musch, Deb Fox, Kristin Keenan, Cat Snapp, Elizabeth Person, Kati Nickerson, Diane Wright. Commissioners Absent: Staff: Carol Thomas and Lisa Newland Guests: Michael Yates, Parks Board, Cydney and Grace, Lou Acceptance of May Minutes: motion to approve, Kristin Keenan. Seconded by Cat Snapp. All in favor. Sorticulture and 125th Anniversary Celebration recap: Michael Yates of Parks Board- creative ideas to enhance the chainlink fencing around the Clark Park Gazebo. Broadway Bus Bulb Project update: Carol gave update on project budget. Cannot bring electricity to the bus stops as initially planned. Commissioner Reports Jason Grim: the art store will have a grand opening party on June 23rd at 2 pm. Live music begins at 4 pm. Kati Nickerson: Hairspray opens July Hugh Denny: Maren Oates: update on Fresh Paint, August 18 & 19. The American Internment Art show is up in the Schack Gallery. This show was sponsored by the Cultural Arts Commission. Alison Musch gave an update on the Housing Hope building. Guest Report: Lou is hosting an arts summer, Salish Summit on August 25th. More details to follow. Cydney and Grace: Grace is opening a B & B at 1705 ½ Hewitt Avenue. There will be an opening on Thursday, June 21, 6- 10 pm. Grace will read poetry: Pause for Poetry. Elizabeth Person is participating in Urban Craft Uprising in Edmonds. Also mentioned that the Everett Bike Walk is happening each second Sunday at 4pm. They will be offering commuter bike classes. National Night Out – requests for commissioner participation  Delta Neighborhood  Horizon Elementary School- Cascade View, Twin Creeks, Westmont & Holly Neighborhoods. Wendt & Mayor’s Arts Awards, Everett Performing Arts Center ____  Wendt Awards est. 1974. Mayor’s Arts Awards est. 2010. 350 attendees. Sorticulture, Everett’s Garden Arts Festival- 3 days, Legion Park ____  Est. 1996. 18,000 attendees. 54% come from outside Snohomish County. Generates overnight stays in hotels. Revenue positive for City of Everett- vendor booth fees & sales tax generated. Music at the Marina Thursday Nights- 10 concerts ____  800 – 1,000+ attendees on Thursdays. Showcases Everett’s beautiful marina. Music at the Marina Saturday Nights – 8 concerts ____  Est. 2008. Saturday nights are growing in attendance. This year, had 600 attendees at each concert. 4th of July Downtown Parade ____  12,000 attendees and over 2,000 participants in the parade. 4th of July Festival at Legion Park ____  8,500 attendees. Very family oriented. Great viewing location for fireworks 4th of July Fireworks show- Port Gardner Bay ____  Fireworks are illegal in Everett. Estimated 30,000 viewers. Children’s Music in the Parks concerts at Silver Lake- 7 concerts ____  5,000 attendees, Cinema under the Stars at Silver Lake ____ Street Tunes & Word on the Street ____ Wintertide at the Everett Performing Arts Center ____ Cultural Arts Commission Grants ____
