Acceptance of September Minutes: Alison Musch made a motion to accept the minutes, Deb Fox seconded. All in favor.
Cultural Arts Budget Reductions – discussion. At this time, the only event that is due to be cut in 2019 are the Saturday
night Music at the Marina concerts.
Alison Musch – parking spot parklets / creative placemaking through the arts. This year, the event took place in
September 21 with Narrative Coffee and Funko participating. Next year, we’d like to expand the park-ing day to include
the Schack, ICM, etc. Dykeman Architects are interested in sponsoring a park.
Discussion around the concept of creative placemaking- activating space through the arts. Staff will send out link to NEA
materials on creative placemaking.
Discussion around creation of murals- selfie/ Instagram-worthy attractions. Perhaps begin with a building owned by the
City: EPAC or the Everpark Garage. Jason Grim would like to explore a ‘Free Wall’ for graffiti artists. The breezeway
between Colby and the Wetmore Theatre Plaza would be an ideal location for a mural. Commissioners also suggested
the pedestrian walkway over W Marine View Drive.
Boards & Commissions openings – the commission has two positions opening for 2019. An appointment is for a six-year
term. Carol will send out current commissioner terms to the group.
Wendt & Mayor’s Arts Awards
Nomination ideas – discussion of possible nominees.
Event suggestions- last year’s performances- Everett Chorale singing and tap dancing on stage, added a lot of
vitality to the evening. After we find out who the nominees are, perhaps we can orchestrate performances to fit.
New Business – Katy Nickerson would like a discussion about the cultural arts commission grants at the November
meeting. What are our funding priorities? How can we leverage the commission grants to promote access to the arts for
all-
