CITY OF EVERETT CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION MINUTES June 11, 2019 – 5 pm Everett Museum of History Tour Acceptance of May Minutes: Motion to approve: Cat Snapp; Seconded Kristen Boswell. All in favor. Commissioners Present: Kristen Boswell, Jason Grim, Cat Snapp, Alison Musch, Cheryl Davis, Deb Fox, Maren Oates Commissioners Absent: Kati Nickerson, Diane Wright, Jasmin Wisecarver-Baron, Hugh Denny, Rosemary Jones, Elizabeth Person Guests: Heather Schaub, Amalia Kozloff, Barbara George, Dennis Hacker, Gary Weikel, Jason Quicksilver, Jenny Flynn, Terra Patterson, Kari Johnson, Steve Fox. Council Liaision: Staff: Carol Thomas, Kimberly Shelton Cultural Arts Commissioners talked about continuing to meet in sub-committees over July and August and resume our regular meeting schedule in September. The sub committees will be Park-lets and Street Art. Everett Museum of History Tour Barbara George gave an overview of the purchase of the Everett Museum of History’s new building including details of the construction to date. Initial focus has been on building out the basement for storage of the museum’s collection. This work has included stabilization/ reinforcement measures, removing an elevated floor at the main level, HVAC and Electrical work. The museum is also installing an elevator from the basement level to the streetfront level. The museum was given a 3,000,000 donation which allowed them to purchase the building and begin renovations. The building was the first home of the Peoples Free Press which later became the Everett Herald. The mission includes making the museum a community gathering space, educating youth through hands-on, interactive experiences and telling the stories of Everett’s history, from the very beginning to contemporary times. New Business: none Citizen Comments: none Adjourn: 6:15 p.m. Next Meeting: September 10, 2019 5 p.m. Proposal to have the September meeting of the cultural arts commission at the new Evergreen Branch Library. Once the opening date of the library is established, the commissioners would like to be involved in a dedication of the new artwork by Christine Clark.
