Street Art initiative – interactive art/ murals Don Clark of Imaginary Creature spoke with the Commission about their
ideas for a downtown mural at the Il Paraiso location on California Ave. Many ideas, concepts and words were spoken
including: gritty, so much potential, Everett High School Seagull mascot, ghost images of old advertisements still seen
downtown, Broadway signage- vintage signs from other eras, Historic Everett Theatre and iconic images of Everett. It
was suggested that Don look at the Live in Everett blog and meet with the historians at the Northwest Room of the
downtown library.
Public Art Updates- Evergreen Branch Library, Broadway Art & Hoyt Ave
Carol noted that Christine Clark will be installing her suspended sculpture the week of October 8.
The Hoyt Avenue art treatment will extend from Wall to Pacific with five new sculptural light pieces by artist Susan
Zoccola. Estimated installation: May of 2020.
Broadway Art – Brian Borrello will be bringing two full-size sculptures to Everett for review by the community. Date is
not set yet but will probably be in November.
Creative Cities District Process talked about the process which is estimated to take a year and how the arts community
comes together to create a plan for the district.
Cultural Commission Grants- furthering the mission of cultural diversity, equity and inclusion.
Discussed forming a smaller group to review the cultural commission grant process and how to instill cultural
diversity, equity and inclusion. Commissioners who volunteered to meet and review criteria: Cat Snapp, Rosemary Jones,
Kati Nickerson, Jason Grim, Diane Wright, Deb Fox and Jason Quicksilver.
Cultural Arts Commission – current vacancies and end of year vacancy, position 1.
We have two open positions, position 7 expiring 12/31/2022 and position 9 which expires 12/31/2023.
Commissioners liked the idea of having a student serve on the commission and made a motion to have one slot
held for a student.
Cultural Commission Chair and Vice Chair for 2020 will be appointed at the December meeting
New Business
Jason Quicksilver would like the commission to tour the Snohomish County Maker Space for a field trip. He thinks they
might be willing to relocate to downtown Everett. Recommended we look at Tinker Space in Tacoma where you pay a
flat fee to create art.
Jason Grim is going to be offering art classes teaching history and techniques of spray painted murals. Classes are aimed
at young artists from 10- 20 years old.
