CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION MINUTES
January 21, 2020 – 5 pm
Everett Municipal Building, 2930 Wetmore Avenue, 10th floor
Acceptance of December Minutes: Motion to approve: Cat Snapp seconded: Jason Grim. All in favor.
Commissioners Present: Alex Vincini, Elizabeth Person, Cheryl Davis, Jason Grim, Kristen Keenan, Cat Snapp, Terra

Commissioners Absent: Deb Fox, Kati Nickerson, Hugh Denny

Everett School District Art Show – judges needed: Kristen Keenan, Jason Grim, Alex Vincini, Diane Wright, Terra
Patterson and Cheryl Davis have volunteered.
Community Resource Center - 3900 Broadway
High School students: April 6 - 7, 7:30 am to 4:30 pm.
Middle School students: May 5 -6, 7:30 am to 4:40 pm.
Hoyt Avenue streetscape- completion of the Susan Zoccola Inflorescence light sculptures using 1% for the Arts funds.
Carol showed the artwork installed on Hoyt Avenue from Everett Ave to Wall. When Hoyt Ave is completed in spring of
2020, we would like to have Susan Zoccola create another five light sculptures for Hoyt Ave from Wall to Pacific.
Carol asked the commission to approve the use of the 1% for arts fund up to $65,000 to complete this project.
Diane Wright made a motion to accept. Rosemary Jones seconded. All in favor.
Invisible Creature Mural – review preliminary sketches
Carol showed Don Clark’s preliminary sketches. Commissioners preferred option one which was also the artist’s
preferred option. Feedback was that the mural should not include the Mukilteo lighthouse. There was also some
concern about having Freddie Funko in the mural.
Broadway Bike Racks & Sculptures – reviewed prototype, discussed what the monumental sculptures would look like.
Carol asked for approval to use the 1% for arts fund to a maximum of $125,000 for the fabrication and installation of 22
bike racks and 4 large sculptures. Rosemary Jones made a motion to approve. Elizabeth Person seconded. All were in
favor.
Creative District Plan – content, timeline and stakeholder committee
Did not cover topic, due to full agenda.
Everett Municipal Building first floor gallery
Did not cover topic, due to full agenda.
Schack Art Center’s summer Graffiti Exhibition and commission involvement – Judy Tuohy talked about plans for the
summer American Graffiti exhibit which will run from late June through August.
Wendt & Mayor’s Arts Awards overview- general overview of the evening. Asked for commissioners willing to volunteer
with set-up.
Showed images of the Dave Haslett sculpture, Equatorial Equinox. The acceptance of sculpture donation for the
Evergreen Arboretum, commissioners confirmed by email:

New Business: talked about the outpouring of community support for creating something to pay tribute to Samiu
Bloomfield.
