Everett Cultural Arts Meeting 01/11/2022 Roll Call: Alex Vinicini – Present for Aaron Alonso - Present partial Jason Grimm - Absent MaryAnn Darby - Absent Terra Paterson - Present Hugh Denny – Absent Deb Fox - Present Citalli Zirate-Absent Guest: Colton Davis Ruben Trujio - Absent Guest: Jo Hull Land Acknowledgement: MaryAnn Darby read the acknowledgment Wendt & Mayors Art Awards: Postponed until May 12th due to the ongoing pandemic. Spoke to Wendt daughters about renaming to the Richard and Nancy Wend awards for excellence. Two purchases for Wendt awardees were approved via the Wendt Endowment at the Snohomish County Community Foundation Sorticulture: Underway and will continue downtown due to practicality for vendors, impact on downtown economy, ease of access for those with limited mobility, and no shuttle needed. Rosemary Jones is 2022 brand identity artist selected and has seen initial concepts created. Brand imagery to be shown at next meeting. Vendor Application is live, 60 artists have applied thus far. Vanessa is actively prospecting local nurseries to participate. COVID-19 Public Art Project: Contracting is underway with chosen artist, Stuart Nakamura. We can collaborate with him regarding the project, and he can take us through the project, and the subcommittee can sanction the art. Deb Fox commented, “Would like to encourage a taller bigger in profile something more visible from a distance as the location is set far back from the street and difficult to view otherwise.” Adding Commissioners: Tyler is working with Nichole Weber to add up to 5 new members to the Cultural Arts Commission. Colton Davis joined as a guest; he’s waiting appointment from the mayor. Commission Discussion Items: Cultural Arts Grants $40,000 set in budget for 2022 Over $150,000 in total funds requested. Prior to the Cultural Arts Commission meeting, a member subcommittee met and prepared a recommended distribution for the mayor. Mayor responded with recommended changes for the Cultural Art Commission to review and advise on. The commission discussed the recommended changes but could not finalize business due to a need for more time for discussion. Discussion by email or additional meeting to follow.
