February 21, 2017 Minutes – 2017 Senior Center Advisory Board Attendees: Board Members David Broggel- New Bob Macy Sue Johnson Ray Trichler Lynne Worley Excused Members Laura Burton Barb Lester Tad Kasuya Barb Maier Guests Judy Touhy, City Council Liaison City Staff Lori Cummings- Parks, Rec. & Community Svcs. Dept Director Bob Dvorak, Senior Center Director Lisa Harrison, Administrative Assistant CALL TO ORDER CALL FOR CORRESPONDENCE None REPORTS Member sharing: 3-5 minutes per board member (i.e. news, observations, etc.): Sue Johnson: Welcomed David Broggel who recently joined the board, explained how the process works. She explained that she represents the general population versus the senior community. It’s nice to know that our community has a variety of sources for funds. Lori Cummings: Director, brought center back into the Parks umbrella. Right now for the Senior Center they are concentrating on getting to know the operations, which will be followed by planning sessions. Bob Macy, Cascadian Place, nothing new to report. Ray, enjoying retirement, volunteer at the coffee bar. Bob Dvorak, working through procedures in place and tightening up security, financials. He mentioned that the staff has been very helpful. Judy Touhy introduced herself as the new city council liaison. Lynne Worley: welcomed David, explained that she is in the senior rehab area of the industry. David Broggel: Works for Brookdale Communities, started in Snohomish, Stanwood, now Mill Creek. Began the partnership with Deb here at the Senior Center and really proud of the work they have done as partners. 1 Carl Gipson Senior Center | Recorded by: LHarrison February 21, 2017 Minutes – 2017 Senior Center Advisory Board Sue Johnson: asked if there will be any guidance for seniors if Obama Care gets repealed. Bob mentioned SHIBA as one resource (Statewide Health Insurance Benefit Advisors). Approval of the Minutes, seconded and passed. Moved and seconded to accept the minutes from last meeting. Motion passed unanimously. Bob Dvorak Senior Center Report and Upcoming Events:  Reviewed items on the report (attached).  Looking to increase the number of trips and perhaps use an additional van for the trips to accommodate more people.  Wed. night Prodigies for Peace presentation. Also have the point in time survey done for the County.  Coffee Bar offerings are expanding. Will start having chips, healthy snacks, string cheese, juices, sodas, etc. Objective is to offer lower priced, healthier items compared to the vending machines.  Newsletter update- determined 6282 as the number of members. Staff working to clean up mailing list prior to sending out a post card to all members. Question- anything for St. Patty’s day? Bob mentioned that there will be entertainment and special lunch. NEW BUSINESS Sue Johnson mentioned that she feels we have a good group of people on the board, representing the community, agencies, the pop at large, etc. Need to ensure that this continues as we evolve.
