A. Presentation and report on the status Municipal Animal Services Shelter - Ray
Rentschler
Ray displayed a presentation for the Board to view. Ray went over the things and changes that
have been put in the Shelter where it is after his first year of being here. He stated that he has
a great team which makes a great foundation at the shelter and he is very happy. Forest Hill
had a disagreement of them feeling like they are not being serviced the same as Everman and
that is no longer a problem. Catering to the public is also something they have been working
on and that is important. The new shelter in the future is still in the works and it is looking very
good. There are grants available and funding is the issue at this time. The amount that we are
looking at to fund this is at $2million dollars. He also displayed pictures showing the changes
at the shelter with the kennels and where the animals are stored. The complaints have gone
down to nothing about animals in both cities and that is great. Ray also mentioned that we
have a great Rescue relationship and they get the animals great homes and adopted very
quickly. Adoption Trailer again will be here by February or March so hopefully that happens.
Also, Boardingham would like to find out how we can get the youth involved with the shelter
and let them volunteer and students want to do something with the animals. Craig will get with
Victoria, city attorney and Susanne Helgesen, Finance Director and get those answers and
see what we can do.
B. Discussion of upcoming events and plans
Ray is waiting on the mobile unit to get some plans for some events.
C. Next steps if ordinance is adopted
This will help us enforce equally in both cities and be more consistent. Forest Hill will have the
ordinances go before their council on February 4th. Then the following Tuesday the City of
Everman will have the ordinances go before their council to approve.
Motion was made by Boarding ham and seconded by Alan pierce support of the
recommended ordinance to be approved.
Motion Carried.
