July 2, 2024 Approved Meeting Minutes Fairfield Town Cemetery Board Meeting​ Minutes DATE: Tuesday, July 2, 2024 LOCATION: Fairfield Town Office, Fairfield, Utah TIME: 7: 00 p.m. MINUTES BY: Holly Panek AGENDA ITEM #1 OPEN THE CEMETERY WORK SESSION MEETING Holly Panek opened the Cemetery Board Meeting at 7:10 p.m. AGENDA ITEM #2 ROLL CALL Cemetery Board Members Present: Holly Panek, Vern Carson, Brad Gurney, David Hansen Board Member Chans Carson excused Others Present: Geri Hansen AGENDA ITEM #3 REVIEW CEMETERY ORDINANCES Learning the Mayor had intended to have a revised Cemetery Ordinance passed by the Town Council without any knowledge of the Cemetery Board, prompted a discussion on the Cemetery Ordinances. The Mayor did agree to remove the item from the Town Meeting Agenda so the Board could review and discuss it. However, the Mayor made it clear that we would not be able to sell graves until the revised ordinance is passed. The actions of the Mayor did not sit well with the Board. Board Member Vern Carson offered his resignation. The other Board Members also offered resignations as well, No Board Member wanted to be paid for their service. The Board reviewed a letter that the Mayor sent to David relieving him of his pay. The Board felt that David Hansen should remain as Sexton while being compensated $200 per month. Board Member Brad Gurney asked that he have a chance to draft a revision of the ordinance for the next meeting when the Board will review it. Brad explained that some of the content and wording of the original ordinance was copied from other cities when the town was first creating our ordinances. All Board Members agreed to stay on the Board until the ordinance was sent to the Town Council for review. Board Chair Holly Panek will get a letter drafted to accompany the Board-revised ordinance to the Town Council. 1 of 2 July 2, 2024 Approved Meeting Minutes Fairfield Town Cemetery Board Meeting​ AGENDA ITEM #4 DISCUSSION ON FINALIZING BURIAL SALE OPEN HOUSE The Board discussed gathering a list of the Veterans buried in the Cemetery. Board Member Holly Panek has a contact who is willing to help cross-reference graves and information with Find A Grave. The Mayor obtained a temporary grave marker from the Lehi City Cemetery for the Board’s review. It could not be located at the time of the meeting. AGENDA ITEM #5 REVIEW OPEN ASSIGNMENTS (TABLED) Assignments updated as follows: BRAD: Contact Koefords about land. APPLICATION - create a bubble to contact Sexton before they start the interment application. Add “this is not a guarantee that plans are finalized.” CERTIFICATE: Add a signature line for Sexton and “notary not needed” under Fairfield Town Signature. Also, see if we get Transfer Information on the back of the certificate. RULES SIGN: Brad is Working on Design. ​ HOLLY: Schedule a meeting with Peloris, Michael, and Stephanie about grave purchases. AGENDA ITEM #6 ADJOURN CEMETERY BOARD MEETING Board Member Vern Carson made a motion to adjourn the Cemetery Board Meeting. Board Member Brad Gurney seconded the motion.
