April 18, 2017 The Adjourned Meeting of the City Council of the City of Fairmont was held at 4:30 p.m. on the 18th day of April, 2016, at the Public Safety Building located at 500 Quincy Street, Fairmont, West Virginia. Mayor Mainella called the meeting to order. Roll call was taken by the Clerk. Councilmembers present were: First District Marianne Moran Second District Frank G. Yann Third District Robert (Rob) Linger Seventh District Philip R. (Phil) Mason Eighth District Thomas (Tom) Mainella Ninth District Ronald J. (Ron) Straight, Sr. Absent: Fourth District Kenneth (Brad) Merrifield Fifth District Fran Warner Sixth District Dora Kay Grubb Also present were: City Manager Robin I. Gomez City Clerk Janet L. Keller PUBLIC HEARING IN RE: A RESOLUTION APPROVING RATES OF LEVY LAID BY THE CITY OF FAIRMONT, MARION COUNTY, AND APPROVED BY THE STATE TAX COMMISSIONER FOR MUNICIPAL PURPOSES FOR THE FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING JULY 1, 2017 IN ACCORDANCE WITH CHAPTER 11, ARTICLE 8 OF THE WEST VIRGINIA CODE, AS AMENDED Pursuant to a notice duly published in the Times-West Virginian, on March 20, 2017 and March 27, 2017, Mayor Mainella convened a public hearing to obtain citizen input on a resolution to approve the levy rates for July 1, 2017. 1 Mayor Mainella asked if anyone present wished to speak in favor of or in opposition to the proposed resolution. Mr. Gomez said this is the annual meeting to adopt the levy rates for FY 18 which will begin July 1, 2017. He said the rates are the same as they have been for several years. There being no one to speak to the proposed Levy, the public hearing was called to a close at 4:32 p.m. CONSIDERATION OF COUNCIL BUSINESS IN RE: ADOPTION, A RESOLUTION APPROVING RATES OF LEVY LAID BY THE CITY OF FAIRMONT, MARION COUNTY, AND APPROVED BY THE STATE TAX COMMISSIONER FOR MUNICIPAL PURPOSES FOR THE FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING JULY 1, 2017 IN ACCORDANCE WITH CHAPTER 11, ARTICLE 8 OF THE WEST VIRGINIA CODE, AS AMENDED Mayor Mainella entertained a motion for the adoption of the proposed Resolution. Motion: Councilmember Mason moved for the adoption of the resolution and Councilmember Moran seconded the motion. The Clerk read the proposed resolution by synopsis for the first time. Roll call was taken by the Clerk. Mayor Mainella declared the resolution adopted by unanimous vote of those Councilmembers present. ADJOURNMENT Mayor Mainella entertained a motion for adjournment. Motion: Councilmember Straight moved to adjourn the meeting. Councilmember Yann seconded the motion. 2 Mayor Straight declared the meeting adjourned by voice vote of Council at 4:33 p.m. 3
