NEW BUSINESS
Planning Director Shae Strait discussed amendments he is proposing to make to the City Center zoning
code. He wanted to bring forth these potential changes and to gauge how the Planning Commission
would like things to proceed from here and to give them adequate time to look over potential changes.
There would be text amendment changes to the city center and parking. Parking would be eliminated
within the Center District. Property owners would use their own discreation for the parking guidelines of
their business.
There are also a large number of things that need adjusted in the code such as reducing required
driveway widths and to allow double tract driveways.
He wants to add the American with Disabilities Act design requirements for parking into the code
making it clear for businesses and multi-family units. There also needs to be clarification on bicycle
standards and a revamping of the loading bay requirements.
The commissioners did pose some questions for the Director of Planning regarding the updates.
Commissioner Richardson would like to know how the parking would be recalculated as well as how will
handicap parking be enforced. Shae stated that all changes are required to be meet developmental
requirements and we are mandated to supply adequate handicap parking.
Commissioner Yann asked if the revamping the loading bay requirements would affect businesses old
and new. Planning Director Shae Strait stated that the changes would only affect new businesses.
