Architectural Advisory Board
Location: George Mason High School Library, Falls Church, Virginia
March 6, 2019 - 7:30 p.m.
The meeting was called to order at 7:33 p.m.
1. Roll Call: Mr. Bitichi, Mrs. Friedlander, Mr. Osburn, Mr. Way, and Mr. Wong were present. Mrs.
Duggan was not present.
2. Petitions: There were no petitions
3. Consent Calendar:
a. MUNIS#: #2019-0203 – Installation of building mounted & blade sign at 124 N Washington St –
Thompson Italian Restaurant
The board reviewed and discussed the sign package as presented. Concern was raised over
precedent with respect to the blade sign. While blade signs may be permitted by right, the board
is concerned that other businesses will also desire similar signs and the City may see a
preponderance of similar installation requests or installations. That said, the blade sign
installation at this particular location is attractive and warranted. The board would prefer the sign
to remain with only white bulbs as depicted and not be installed with any colored lights. The
board also asked about enforcing maintenance of installed awnings as other similar locations
currently have worn and faded awning installations.
4. Other Business: There was no other business
5. Old Business: There was no old business
6. New Business:
a. Final Feedback and approval on the Site Plan for the new George Mason High School, located at

Property Records, zoned B-1, Central Business District. MUNIS#: 2010-0013. Includes
