Architectural Advisory Board School Board Conference Room, 800 W. Broad St., Falls Church, VA 22046 June 5, 2019, 7:30 p.m. The meeting was called to order at 7:51 p.m. 1. Roll Call: Mr. Osburn, Mr. Way, Mr. Wong were present. Mr. Bitici, Mrs. Friedlander were absent 2. Petitions: There were no petitions. 3. Consent Calendar: There were no consent calendar items. 4. Other Business: There was no other business. 5. Old Business: There was no old business. 6. New Business: a. Final Feedback and Recommendation requested on the preliminary site plan submission of the Mary Riley Styles Public Library expansion, located at 120 N Virginia Ave, RPC #51-113-005 of the Falls Church Real Property Records, zoned OD-MCA, Official Design and Municipal Center Area. After Staff comments and presentation by the applicant, the Board asked questions and discussed several aspects of the project. Discussion included the corner sidewalk and pedestrian elements at the corner of N. Virginia and Park Ave; design of the corner tower, overall design proportions, HVAC units, bicycle parking, and the exit onto the driveway at the N. Virginia Ave. corner. The Board appreciates the overall design and alterations to the planned addition based on previous comments. The Board feels it is a well programmed design and will fit in well with the existing structure, to the neighborhood and City overall. Mr. Wong made a motion to accept the plan as submitted. Mr. Osburn seconded, and the motion passed unanimously. b. Staff presentation on the updates to the Demographics and Housing Chapters to the City’s Comprehensive Plan. Feedback requested from the AAB on the draft chapters ahead of Planning Commission and City Council action in July 2019. Staff presented the two identified chapters to the Board. A few questions and comments were offered, and the items were discussed. The Board appreciates the information and looks forward to the development of the Comprehensive Plan. Harry E.
