Architectural Advisory Board City Hall Council Chambers, 300 Park Ave. Falls Church VA 22046 September 4th, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting was called to order at 7:36 p.m. 1. Roll Call: Mr. Bitici, Mrs. Friedlander, Mr. Osburn, Mr. Way, and Mr. Wong were present. Youth Representative Daniel Ng and Tim Stevens were also present. 2. Petitions: There were no petitions. 3. Consent Calendar: a) MUNIS#: #2019-0085 – Installation of wall mounted, lighted, channel-letter sign for SAWP Skin & Laser; 929 W Broad St Ste 250 b) MUNIS#: #2019-0205 – Installation of illuminated channel-letter and logo sign and non- illuminated wall mounted pan sign for Code Ninjas; 510 S Washington St. c) MUNIS#: #2019-0266 – Installation of lighted box sign for PediSpa; 6757 Wilson Blvd Ste 14 d) MUNIS#: #2019-0267 – Installation of building-mounted lit channel-letter sign for Firepan; 6793c Wilson Blvd e) MUNIS#: #2019-0282 – Installation of wall-mounted, illuminated, channel-letter sign for Falls Church Modern Dentistry; 1212 W Broad St The Board had no comments on the above signage applications as they are all by right and already installed. The Board discussed with staff the sign application process with respect to timing, opportunities for feedback, and other factors. The Board will review all outstanding signage at the next meeting. The Board would also appreciate the opportunity to review signage prior to its installation, and asks City Staff and Council to consider how best to utilize the Board’s time with respect to such efforts. 4. Staff presentation on the updates to the Natural Resources Chapter to the City’s Comprehensive Plan. Feedback requested from the AAB on the draft chapters ahead of Planning Commission and City Council action in December 2019. After a presentation by staff, the board asked questions about how and what kind of feedback the Board can provide. There were also questions about existing regulations and policies as well as the ability to change and/or reinforce those policies. The Board will review the materials, assemble comments and provide to City staff. 7. Minutes: a. Minutes from the May 1 meeting were reviewed. Mr. Wong made a motion to accept them as submitted, Mr. Osburn seconded, and it was passed unanimously. b. Minutes from the June 5 meeting were reviewed. Mr. Wong made a motion to accept them as submitted, Mr. Osburn seconded, and it was passed unanimously. 8. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 8:37 p.m. Harry E.
