Arts and Humanities Council of Falls Church Meeting November 15, 2018 Falls Church Arts Minutes Members Present: Corey Jannicelli, Barb Cram, Sally Cole, Laura Hull, Edwin Henderson, Marybeth Connelly, Letty Hardi, Ellen Gross, Rosemary Ziskind, Ron Anzalone, Stephanie Oppenheimer Student Representative: None Guests: Keith Thurston, CATCH Foundation Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Barb Cram at 9:37 am. Welcome to our newest member, Stephanie Oppenheimer from the Library Board. Minutes: Meeting minutes from October were approved TLCCF Report: o None Development Update:  Founders Row – Will see more progress in the next month or two  Broad & Washington o Laura met with Insight Property is still committed to the project  Urban Land Institute o Meeting Nov 15 to discuss Eden Center area recommendations  Downtown Plaza o EDA approved a scaled back version o Will include lighting, seating, ADA accessibility and 2 public art opportunities o Question about Unity Club smoking area o Work will take place over the next 6 to 9 months Old Business:  Affordable Living Policy 1 o A&H Council recommendations were submitted Human Services Division  Heritage Days o Group plans to reconvene to discuss common language and branding elements o Question was posed about hosting a city wide day in addition to marketing ongoing programs.  Public Art Policy o Working group includes Letty, Irene, Sally and Barb o Please send comments on draft to Corey and Barb o Need to consider incorporating the cost of artist into the Public Art Policy New Business:  De-acquisition of City assets o Recommendation to reach out to Cindy Mester about current process o Suggestion to create a free cycle program for local organizations and companies to communicate about unwanted office items  #LiveLocal Campaign o Has received over 300 posts from people sharing their purchases over social media in Falls Church o 3 drawings have taken place for prizes  Utility Boxes o Project is moving forward but test still needs to be printed. Hoping to have it up before the holiday season  Watch Night o Offering different types of amusements this year o Victorian Society has requested additional marketing to draw people up to Cherry Hill Farmhouse possibly using signage on stage and sandwich boards and warm beverages. o Recommendation was made to put maps on the bus Roundtable:  Treefest scheduled for Dec 1 from 11 am to 8pm at Ireland's Four Provinces  Chamber Nonprofit lunch scheduled for Tuesday Nov 20 providing an opportunity for businesses and nonprofits to connect  United Wellness Center and Sports Rehab hosts Chamber mixer on Nov 27, with two specialty cocktails by FC Distillers  THHF will host MLK Walk on Jan 21 on South Washington St from the Arch to The Falls Church  Women’s History Walk in March date TBD  Creative Cauldron has one more week of Peter Pan performances followed by Madeline’s Christmas and 5 Christmas Cabaret performances  Victorian Society hosts Very Victorian Christmas at Cherry Hill on Nov 24 and their Halloween reading will be rescheduled as an anniversary event for Poe in 2019  FOCH hosts Children’s Holiday Shoppe on Dec 1 and Holiday Teas on Dec 8 & 9 2  Chicago opens at GM High School on Nov 15  City Tree Lighting scheduled for Nov 26  Latest plans for GM High School available, school to be completed Jan 2021 Adjourn Meeting was adjourned by at 11:17 am Next Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, December 20 at 9:30 am at Falls Church Arts Gallery Submitted: By Corey Jannicelli 3
